Warwick Farm Winners - Tips For Wednesday 17th May

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a soft track.

Race 1 - 12:50PM PROVEN THOROUGHBREDS HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

3. Fleetwood went into his debut back in January, won by Don Corleone, as a $4.60 chance so there was obviously an opinion of him. He performed fairly, finishing eighth, and has been given some time. Looked good in a sharp trial a couple of weeks ago and he can run well in a tricky race.

Dangers: 12. In Flight has shown ability in her two trials and while she was run down by Queen Of Dragons in the second of them at Canterbury she wasn’t overly tested. She can take some advantage of an inside gate and wouldn’t surprise if she gives cheek. 15. No More Lies trialled back in the early summer then re-emerged and looked to have improved with her two Randwick trials in the past month. Held off Saltaire in the latest and she should be competitive on that. 13. Overview has the Waller-McDonald combination that will earn her respect in the market and there was nothing wrong with her third in a Canterbury trial on May 5. Keep in mind.

How to play it: Fleetwood WIN ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 2 - 1:25PM SHOWTIME @ ARROWFIELD HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

3. Grebeni showed a lot of promise as a future middle distance performer last time in and returned with an eye-catching second over 1300m at Kembla. Had to like how he attacked the line there and stepping to the mile against his own age is ideal at this point. Has shown he can take up a position and should be hard to beat.

Dangers: 9. Lyrical Gangster is another lightly raced improver and while he was safely held at his second start at Kembla he still ran on nicely enough. Probably gets a cold ride from the outside barrier and can take holding out. 8. Celestial Spirit fought on well from on the pace first-up over 1200m then possibly anchored by the 63kg at Wagga but she was game. Will be on the speed and capable of giving a big sight. 1. Alberich has been a little disappointing this time in but drops in class and gets a nice soft barrier so if he’s going to lift he has his chance. His last placing was a second to Flag Of Honour 11 months ago and on that would be a factor.

How to play it: Grebeni WIN ($2.50 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Race 3 - 2:00PM CHASE THE DREAM HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

11. Waikiki might get the last look at them in a race that should be truly run. Loomed to win when resuming at Kensington on Anzac Day but perhaps the long run told. While she’s still a maiden she looks right up to being in the finish of this.

Dangers: 10. Mount Warning was a bit green in the run home but managed to get the job done with a bit in hand first-up at Gosford as an odds-on favourite. Can only be better for it and is a major player here. 8. Eagle Nest led all the way to an easy win at Hawkesbury then $2.50 favourite and a shade disappointing up to BM64 here a month ago. Back a notch against her own age here so entitled to another chance. 3. Laroupe found one better when resuming at Gosford but there was merit in the performance. Fitter and an each-way chance.

How to play it: Waikiki E/W ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 4 - 2:35PM FURPHY HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

9. Damaged doesn’t win out of turn but he put up a big performance to finish as close as he did at Canterbury two weeks ago when fourth in a similar race. Draw is a lot kinder to him than in recent starts so he might have his best chance to break through.

Dangers: 8. Overlord comes through the same race at his second start for Gayna Williams and he acquitted himself well after a check early in the straight to run fifth. Doesn’t need to improve a whole lot to be competitive. 7. Stolen Jade might be working her way back into some form, she had some support when runner-up at Kensington last week and backing up is a good sign. If she can hold that form now she’s a definite chance. 5. Ceasefire did some work to land outside the leader last time at Kensington and weakened. He was a drifter in betting there too. Generally a consistent type and is capable of bouncing back.

How to play it: Damaged E/W ($6.50 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 5 - 3:10PM CASINO PRINCE @ VINERY STUD HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

4. Anythink Goes looked to be working up to a win before having a tough run in a Midway at Rosehill a couple of weeks ago. Happy to forgive that, closed off well in his previous Midway attempt and should get more favours from the draw. More than capable of going close.

Dangers: 5. Media Starguest was big odds when resuming in a BM78 at Warwick Farm a month ago and he performed quite nicely running on into fifth. Better suited up in distance here and if is generally not too far away. Must be included in the chances. 6. Moktaffy didn’t fire third-up at Eagle Farm after a couple of promising placings at Doomben. Must be going okay to warrant coming back to Sydney and is worth keeping safe. 12. Bowery Breeze often runs well on her home track and was placed over this course back in January. Likely goes back and can run into the placings without surprising.

How to play it: Anythink Goes E/W ($6.50 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Anythink Goes runs second at Randwick on April 15

Race 6 - 3:45PM PAULELE @ DARLEY HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

10. Silent Raindrops is a promising filly and she’s heading the right way with her easy maiden win followed by a nice effort to run second at Kensington last week. Slight class rise but back against fillies and mares offsets it, she should be a big threat.

Dangers: 2. African Daisy enjoyed a good prep last time in and did manage to win first-up at this trip. Fitter for a couple of trials and if she can offset that barrier she should be very competitive, especially with the claim. 1. Air To Air is not really a heavy tracker so forgive her battling effort at Rosehill second-up. She was impressive fresh after making a long run and any improvement in the track will be in her favour as she’s certainly good enough to win. 4. Arale will give a sight again after leading and just finding one better at Kensington last time out. Slightly softer track might be to her liking as well.

How to play it: Silent Raindrops WIN ($3.70 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: EVENS.

Silent Raindrops runs second at Kensington on May 10

Race 7 - 4:20PM TAB HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

10. Growl is a big watch at his first run for the Snowden camp. He hasn’t raced for more than a year but showed plenty of talent in his five starts to date and his trials have been excellent, particularly the latest. Betting a guide but worth a look each-way.

Dangers: 13. Va Via was a drifting favourite first-up at Canterbury and found the line when it was all over. Drawn wide here but that’s not really a factor from this starting point, pattern of the day will be more crucial, and while she’s only one from 12 she’s not far off a breakthrough. 6. Tocomah has ability on his day and he showed it with a solid first-up win at Wyong. Has the chance to make the step to midweek level now and he’s one of the chances. 12. Ringarosa was a Canterbury winner before a two month break on a heavy track then ran them down back to 900m at Newcastle two weeks ago. Sure to be strong late again.

How to play it: Growl E/W ($7.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.
