Warwick Farm Winners - Tips For Wednesday 13th July

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a heavy track.

Race 1 - 12:50PM FURPHY HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

5. Waverider Buoy has the heavy track box to tick but on what we’ve seen so far she will be hard to beat here if she does get through it. Showed plenty of promise on debut in November when run down late and has had two nice trials leading in.

Dangers: 2. Noble Legend wasn’t fancied in betting at his debut at Hawkesbury but acquitted himself well running a close fourth on a good track. Fitter and though he also has to prove himself in the wet he has upside. 1. Time For Truce comes into this race on the back of one trial where he scored comfortably enough at Scone a couple of weeks ago. Not an overly strong race here on face value so he could surprise. Of the others 6. Russian Assassin ran fourth on a heavy track at his second start, not far from Hell I Am. Gelded and has the chance to be in the finish somewhere.

How to play it: Waverider Buoy WIN ($1.30 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 2 - 1:25PM TAB HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

1. Arch Of Titus is well exposed now with two seconds from as many starts on heavy tracks and you’d expect him to give a sight again. Game in a two horse war last time at Canterbury and gets the claim here. Good chance to go one better.

Dangers: 6. Smart Legend appears a big danger on what he’s showing at the trials. Attacked the line stylishly to win his second hitout at Randwick two weeks ago, on a soft 6, and if he handles the ground is hard to beat. 4. Crafty Eagle hasn’t been as obvious but there was plenty to like about his latest trial on the same morning, running on into third behind Athletica in a trial run about four lengths faster. Keep safe. 7. Spirit Of Vomo might have been a bit flat footed after tracking the speed on debut but rallied well when fourth at Gosford. The winner there has since run well in town. Could be an improver.

How to play it: Arch Of Titus WIN ($2.40 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 3 - 2:00PM HYLAND RACE COLOURS HANDICAP (2140 METRES)

2. The Milkybar Kid has found himself in a two horse race and he was already going to be a short priced favourite with a full field. Did it easily winning at Kensington two weeks ago and given he will get a picnic in front here he should account for his rival.

Dangers: On face value you'd say it's virtually a walkover as 6. Naval Warfare was beaten over 11 lengths by The Milkybar Kid in that Kensington race. On the plus side he has won over this track and trip but it's been a long time between drinks.

How to play it: The Milkybar Kid WIN.

Race 4 - 2:35PM CHINA HORSE CLUB HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

2. Cotton Fingers is straight off a maiden win but it was a very strong one at Canterbury first-up and does look to have some upside. Sat handy and surged away when challenged in the straight suggesting a slight rise in trip is no worries. Should run well.

Dangers: 3. Beep Test didn't do a bad job first-up at Kensington two weeks ago, beaten 1.7 lengths. Smaller field here, draws well and has been heavy track placed previously. Chance here. 9. Bright Flight is lightly raced and probably leads them which could make her dangerous. Too good at Bathurst then just behind the placings at Gosford in the race won by Po Kare Kare. 8. Pacheco comes off a tough win at Scone in a maiden where he had to fight hard for it. Seems competent in heavy ground so has a show.

How to play it: Cotton Fingers WIN ($2.40 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 5 - 3:10PM VINERY YEARLINGS HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

2. Highly Desired rarely runs a bad race and this looks ideal for him back onto a heavy track. Game as usual after leading at Kensington two weeks ago at 1400m on a soft 6. Tougher conditions suit his style, he’ll be up there on pace and can take catching.

Dangers: 3. Media Starguest is another consistent type and he’s just finding it hard to win one at the moment. No match for the winner last time but was run down for second placing late. Handles the ground and perhaps coming back 200m is a plus. 9. Nicochet managed a win on a heavy track three starts back and his two runs since a freshen up have been okay. Getting fitter and if there’s a late closer into the placings it’s likely to be him. 4. Cyborg boxed on okay at Newcastle last time and while a month between runs he’s had a tickover trial. Tends to run well in heavy ground and won’t know himself with just 53kg. Each-way.

How to play it: Highly Desired WIN ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 6 - 3:45PM EARTHLIGHT @ DARLEY HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

2. Glittery wasn’t suited getting back off a wide gate on a good track second-up at Rosehill but her run was okay. Strong winner fresh on soft ground beating two subsequent winners and back onto a wet track she’s a good chance to bounce back.

Dangers: 7. Essonne is unbeaten after three starts and her effort to win a Midway at Randwick last time was huge after she sat three and four wide, while refusing to settle. If gate one is no disadvantage come this stage of the day she’s right in the mix again. 4. Rita May has done little wrong in five starts to date for three wins though she's yet to see a wet track. Impressive first-up at Hawkesbury and a chance if she does relish the ground. 5. Miss Jay Fox is a much better horse than what she showed when resuming at Randwick on a good track behind Hulk. If she can find her form from last prep she can be a sharp improver at odds.

How to play it: Glittery WIN ($2.60 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 7 - 4:20PM HOME AFFAIRS @ COOLMORE HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

No reason 2. Stormy Rock won’t be right in the finish again after a strong first-up win at Canterbury three weeks ago. Stalked the runner-up and hit the line strongly, can only be fitter and is 1kg better off after the claim. Go well.

Dangers: 12. Marooniyah is a logical danger given she did cart Stormy Rock into the race last time but she’s also had four runs back so is at her peak. Won’t be far away. 7. Overlord usually runs well fresh and he’s a big watch first-up. Broke his maiden status when resuming last prep on a heavy track and not overly concerned about the wide gate at this starting point. Keep in mind. 11. Damaged ran a handy race in a Midway two starts ago on a heavy track then not disgraced on a soft 5 at Randwick behind his stablemate. Record says he’s finding it tough to win one but he’s more than capable of being placed here.

How to play it: Stormy Rock WIN ($3.50 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: EVENS.
