Warwick Farm Winners - Tips For Monday 18th April

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Monday’s meeting at Warwick Farm. Selections based on a heavy track.

Race 1 - 12:35PM HYLAND RACE COLOURS HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

6. Tavi L’Amour didn’t seem to come up in two runs in the spring but she showed a heap of promise with her debut heavy track run. Worked home well late in her latest trial and this is a good option for her.

Dangers: 1. Mystic Mermaid was a beaten favourite first-up at Newcastle on a heavy 10 and she did seem to have her chance. This won’t be quite as heavy and she’s fitter so give another chance. 3. Nautical Miss also went under as a short favourite last start, at Goulburn, and she also had her opportunity. However, she’s run well in all three starts so far so is in the mix. 2. Desi Girl has the blinkers on after a fair debut at Newcastle where she sat handy and held her ground. Fitter and could be an improver.

How to play it: Tavi L’Amour WIN ($2.60 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 2 - 1:10PM RANVET HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

6. Fearnought was honest all through her first prep without winning and she handled wet tracks in her last few. Fitter for one trial and while drawn out it’s not a strong maiden and she looks a good chance.

Dangers: 5. Taurasi hasn’t raced for a year and she wasn’t disgraced on debut behind Paulele in a Kindergarten Stakes. Obviously had issues but she’s trialled a couple of times and has blinkers on. Keep safe. 9. Californiasilencer has been okay in two runs back on heavy tracks though didn’t make an impact in the latest when midfield all the way. Any improvement in the ground a plus. 3. Frizelle is a big watch on debut, nicely bred and in leading stable but latest trial was on the synthetic. Any support would be significant.

How to play it: Fearnought WIN ($3.40 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 3 - 1:45PM DRINKWISE PLATE (1100 METRES)

14. Ultra just found the 900m a bit too sharp first-up at Newcastle but she only need a few more strides to pick up the winner. She’s had a few chances but isn’t far off a win and has a good each-way hope.

Dangers: 5. Celtic Harp is now with John O’Shea and he trialled okay behind Giancarlo running third a couple of weeks ago. Has shown glimpses and betting will be a good guide to him fresh. 12. Marooniyah was disappointing last time but might have turned the corner after a narrow first-up defeat at Newcastle on a heavy 10. Drawn inside here and if she can progress then she’s a good chance. 11. Firstluv hit the line into a placing on debut then fair on a heavy track here back in June last year. Given time and trialling well. Keep in mind.

How to play it: Ultra E/W ($4.60 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Ultra runs second at Newcastle on March 26

Race 4 - 2:20PM FUJITSU GENERAL HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

3. Café Royal found her best form for a surging narrow win at Canterbury off a six week freshen. Handles the ground, and no reason she couldn’t repeat in a race that's fallen away.

Dangers: 7. Two Up has been in good form in Midways of late and was placed in this grade three runs back. Should be prominent for a long way. 5. King Of The Castle is an ex-Kiwi having his first run for Joe Pride. Quiet trials so keep an eye on betting. 2. Cuban Royale didn't do a whole lot first-up but that was 1000m, he's trialled again since and could be an improver here.

How to play it: Café Royal WIN ($2.40 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Race 5 - 3:00PM THE AGENCY HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

12. Camino Real has been freshened up since breaking through for an easy maiden win at Wyong back in February. Ran well behind Mazu before that and has looked okay in the wet. Wide gate not such an issue from this start and she should run well.

Dangers: 9. I Am Brazen was a big winner on a heavy track at Goulburn two starts back then favourite in a similar race here and didn’t fire after leading early. Worth another chance on what shouldn’t be as heavy ground. 1. Parachuter disappointed when well in the market first-up at Canterbury. Trialled again since then and blinkers go on. Can lift. 11. Vivid Flash had support and tried hard when runner-up at Canterbury on a heavy 10 where the winner came down the outside fence. Racing well and sure to be around the mark.

How to play it: Camino Real WIN ($2.80 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Camino Real wins at Wyong on February 15

Race 6 - 3:40PM FURPHY HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

3. Athelric couldn’t have been more impressive in his very easy win over the same course almost a month ago. Freshened and while up 3kg he does look hard to beat in a race that should be run to suit.

Dangers: 8. Satin Ribbons is a smart short courser who was run down by Dragonstone before a spell at Kembla back in November. Won two trials on wet tracks leading into this and could take catching. 1. Our Bellagio Miss loves a wet track and has won a couple of trials on the synthetic of late in preparation for a first-up run. Yet to win fresh and at this track and they are the only negatives. 6. Fox Fighter ran very well behind Mazu and Zapateo first-up then had excuses when struck by a shoe in the Fireball. Freshened up, he’s usually consistent so don’t be surprised if he gets into the placings.

How to play it: Athelric WIN ($2.90 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Athelric wins at Warwick Farm on March 23

Race 7 - 4:20PM GRAINSHAKER VODKA HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

14. Democracy Manifest is a very interesting runner, ex-Kody Nestor now with Chris Waller. Showed ability in the country in two runs last prep and did work home nicely in a recent trial. Market a guide late. Respect.

Dangers: 9. Assiduity started long odds-on first-up at Hawkesbury and was never really challenged in leading all the way to win a maiden. Obviously up in class here but makes his own luck and should go well. 2. Camaguey showed ability in Victoria last time in including a close fourth at Listed level before a break. That was almost a year ago so betting a pointer but rather include than dismiss. 10. King Of Hearts is an honest type resuming and while his best is over a bit further he could sprint well fresh.

How to play it: Democracy Manifest WIN ($2.20 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Democracy Manifest runs fourth in a Rosehill trial on March 22

Race 8 - 5:00PM CITY TATTERSALLS GROUP HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

10. Whodat is racing well and followed a couple of Newcastle wins with a solid fourth at Canterbury where he came from last on the turn. Probably won’t get so far back off a better gate and looks a good each-way chance.

Dangers: 3. Shameonus is racing in great form and comes off back to back wins at Orange including the Cup there on a heavy track. Races handy and trained here so keep in mind. 8. Ashim showed a return to form at Canterbury last time where he led and battled on to hold third. If he can repeat that effort he can be placed at least. 11. Fill Of Fun is back in class after a couple of Group 3 shots, form before that in this sort of grade solid and is a definite chance.

How to play it: Whodat E/W ($7.00 TAB Fixed Odds); Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Whodat runs fourth at Canterbury on March 30
