Australian Turf’s Club’s world-class Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival finishes at Royal Randwick this Saturday with two Group 1 races including a rare shot at racing history for a two-year-old filly and another for a mare in separate features on Schweppes All Aged Stakes Day.

The Group 1 $600,000 Schweppes All Aged Stakes, one of the nation’s highest rating races, and Group 1 $500,000 Moët & Chandon Stakes, the third leg of the Sydney Triple Crown for two-year-olds, headline a 10-race card.

Multiple Group 1 winning mare Tofane is aiming to be only the second mare alongside champion Sunline to win two Schweppes All Aged Stakes in the race’s long and distinguished honour roll.

And flying filly Fireburn would be just the seventh horse and only the second filly in 66 years to claim Sydney’s three majors for two-year-olds – the Longines Golden Slipper/Inglis Sires’/Moët & Chandon Champagne Stakes autumn treble.

Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering, James Ross said Saturday at Royal Randwick was the finale of six weeks of world-class horses, jockeys and trainers competing for more than $37 million in prizemoney.

“The Group 1 Schweppes All Aged Stakes is consistently one of Australia’s highest rating races and has attracted a capacity field including an incredible 13 individual Group 1 winners," Mr Ross said.

“The Moët and Chandon Champagne Stakes is a highly anticipated renewal as it has been 30 years since a filly won the two-year old Triple Crown and Fireburn aims to create her own history for connections on Saturday.

“Saturday completes another great Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival which has featured among the world’s best horses, trainers and jockeys."

Australian Turf Club has compiled a points score of jockey and trainer performances for every race (50 races) over the first five weeks of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival from 12 March to last Saturday 9 April, on a 3-2-1 win and placings basis.

In a hugely competitive series, three jockeys sit tied on 27 points (Tommy Berry, Sam Clipperton and James McDonald), closely followed by William Pike (25 points) and Hugh Bowman and Tim Clark (20 points).

Among the trainers, just one point separates 11-time Sydney premiership champion Chris Waller (35 points) and Godolphin’s James Cummings (34 points), ahead of jointly Hawkes Racing (18 points) and Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott (18 points).

Multiple Group 1 winners Mo’unga (Annabel Neasham and Tommy Berry) and Forbidden Love (Michael Freedman and Hugh Bowman) open joint $4.60-4.80 TAB favourites in the Schweppes All Aged Stakes, alongside the strongly backed In The Congo ($6-$4.80) for Waterhouse/Bott and Tim Clark. Tofane trained by Michael Moroney and ridden by Mark Zahra is at $8-$8.50 in early betting.

The Gary Portelli-trained Fireburn with Brenton Avdulla again aboard is at $1.50 to create history for her connections in the Group 1 $500,000 Moët & Chandon Stakes over the 1600m. She’s Extreme is second in TAB betting ($3.70) for her trainer Anthony Cummings and jockey Tommy Berry.

Four Group 3 races add to Saturday’s card – the $160,000 ACY Securities Frank Packer Plate, $160,000 Mostyn Copper James H B Carr Stakes, $160,000 TAB Hall Mark Stakes and $160,000 Sharp Extensive IT JRA Plate.
