Stayers Warming Up Rosehill Gardens For XXXX Winter Cup

A full field has accepted for the Listed $150,000 XXXX Winter Cup at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday - the feature event on the nine-race card.

The race includes a last-start Wagga Cup winner, a defending Winter Cup runner and a visitor from New Zealand in a wide-open betting market in the 14-horse field over the 2400m.

The Bjorn Baker-trained and Jason Collett ridden Parry Sound – a last start second in the Lord Mayor’s Cup – is the $4.20 TAB favourite in the XXXX Winter Cup from the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable’s Knights Order ($4.60) for jockey Tim Clark.

Consistent stayer Stockman, trained by Joe Pride and ridden by Brenton Avdulla ($5.50), and South Pacific ($6.50) for trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace are next in betting.

Wu Gok (who won last year’s Winter Cup) is at $10 for Sydney’s champion trainer Chris Waller and to be ridden by Sam Clipperton.

Inverloch ($11) – coming off a last start win in the Wagga Cup – will be ridden by Tommy Berry as the popular jockey tries to chase down the Sydney Premiership leader James McDonald.

Adding further different formlines is The Good Fight ($16), who has travelled to Sydney for Kiwi trainers Shaune Ritchie and Colm Murray from Cambridge. The 6-year-old was an easy last start winner of a Group 3 race in New Zealand.

Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering, James Ross said: “The Winter Staying Series in Sydney presents a number of opportunities for both Open Class and emerging stayers. It is pleasing to see strong numbers this Saturday, in particular those from feature Cup races participating in the XXXX Winter Cup.”
