Special Awards At ATC's Industry Recognition Raceday

Australian Turf Club will recognise thoroughbred owners and racing participants – and also present a special annual jockeys award – at ATC Industry Recognition Raceday at Royal Randwick this Saturday.

On the first Saturday of the new racing season, Australian Turf Club will present a range of awards for the 2018/19 season at an Owners Recognition Morning Tea function in the Longines Owners Pavilion.

The awards recognise overall participation and success on ATC courses including: most winning owner; highest strike rate owner; most improved horse; most wins ATC courses; most starts ATC courses; most starts at Canterbury KIA Friday Night Racing; and most starts at ATC courses by a horse trained outside the Metropolitan area.

A Special Achievement award will also be presented to the owners of Dixie Blossoms following her highly successful career over four seasons.

The popular Ron Quinton-trained mare began her racing career in the 2015/16 season and raced at Australian Turf Club venues in 29 of her 32 starts, earning almost $1.6 million prizemoney.
Among her major victories were the Group 1 Coolmore Classic, Group 3 Angst Stakes (twice) and Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes (twice).

Australian Turf Club, along with the family of legendary jockey Athol George Mulley, will present an annual trophy to the apprentice with the most number of wins at Royal Randwick last season.

Top apprentice Robbie Dolan, who rode 18 winners at Royal Randwick in the previous season, will be awarded as the winner of the Athol Mulley trophy for 2018/19.

Before Race 7, the Jockeys Reunion Handicap this Saturday, the Australian Turf Club and National Jockeys Trust will remember jockeys who have passed away or been injured during the history of Australian racing. A minute’s silence will be held in the Theatre Of The Horse at 3.05pm.

Up to 60 former jockeys – at Royal Randwick this Saturday for a special function with the NSW Jockeys Association in the Jockeys Heritage Suite – are expected to join current riders at the ceremony.

The Royal Randwick track was rated a Heavy 9 on Thursday morning following almost 28mls of rain since Monday evening.
