Promising two-year-old colt Snatchreilly ($1.50 favourite on TAB) will line up for his second race start in the Evans & Wislang Solicitors Maiden Handicap (900m) at Newcastle on Saturday.
The grey son of Trapeze Artist, raced in the same interests as his multi-Group 1 winning sire is trained by Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou.
The gelding has only raced once, when finishing down the track in the Group 3 Breeders' Plate in October.
Snatchreilly has had two recent trials leading up to his first-up run.
After a close third in a Rosehill trial on March 21, the colt was a star at the Rosehill trials on a soft track on April 1.
The colt quickly led and put a gap in his opposition before being eased down to win by 1¾ lengths.
Snatchreilly is a bold strider, the blinkers go on and from the positive barrier he will take some running down over the short course.
Christian Reith will ride the locally trained two-year-old Lonhro gelding Toyger ($11), a disappointment in his only start at Kembla in December, who returns to racing in the Open Living Outdoor Design 2yo Maiden Plate (900m).
Mark Minervini trains the juvenile who won a Newcastle trial by a big space in December. The gelding was a drifter in betting at Kembla and raced accordingly.
On April 11, Toyger won a Beaumont trial in good style.
Brad Widdup’s three-year-old Ra Ra Grandpa ($3.30 fav), fitter for a solid recent placing at Hawkesbury will appreciate the longer trip in the Newcastle Skin Check Provincial Maiden Plate (1850m). He has always shown he will stay, and this is a lovely race for him.
The Paul Perry-trained Nosey Parker ($4.40), yet to be out of a place in four starts this preparation will be hard to beat in the John Whitmore Memorial Midway Class 1 Handicap (1250m).
A three-year-old son of his trainer's favourite horse Choisir, Nosey Parker threw the race away at Newcastle two starts back when he laid in down the straight. Last start he came from last to win narrowly on this track.
Locally-trained Annulus ($3.60 fav) will appreciate a drop in class when he contests the final event, the Sharp Office Conditional Benchmark 68 Handicap (1500m).
Annulus has had two starts this preparation in Provincial Championships Qualifiers, and he has performed well. He races well here, has a soft draw and a 2kg allowance for the promising Jett Stanley.
