Schiller Confident Filly Can Live Up To Her Price Tag (Randwick Saturday)

By Adrian Sciglitano

The aptly named Price Tag, a $600,000 Inglis Easter Yearling purchase, will look to live up to expectations when she contests the $2,000,000 Inglis Millennium (1100m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Price Tag ($3.50 favourite on TAB), co-trained by Anthony & Sam Freedman, beat all bar current Blue Diamond favourite My Gladiola last start when she contested the Blue Diamond preview for fillies over 1000m at Sandown, a race where jockey Tyler Schiller was able to get a feel for her.

Purchased by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock and raced in the famous Pinecliff Racing red & white striped colours, Price Tag will step out for her fourth race start and jockey Tyler Schiller expects the filly to prove hard to beat.

“The owner [Jonathan Munz] was happy to put me on because she was heading this way [Inglis Millennium], so I could get a feel for her and stick with her heading into the Millennium all going well,” Schiller said.

Having yet to be tested past 1000m in all three career starts to date, Schiller is hopeful the filly will appreciate the step up in distance to 1100m.

“I think Anthony and Sam were quite happy she would go further [than 1000m], 1200m definitely. That would suit her more than the 1000m races she has contested,” Schiller said

“It’s good to see her going to the 1100m and then most likely up to the 1200m if she pushes onto the [Golden] Slipper. Hopefully that is even better again but we will get more of a guide on Saturday.”

Schiller says he was hoping to be closer in the run last start over 1000m and is confident the filly can show versatility from the barrier on Saturday and finish off her race.

“She will probably be better with a sit,” Schiller said. “We were hoping to be a touch more forward last start but they just went a little bit quick so that might be another benefit for her going up to the 1100m.”

Tyler Schiller will have his first raceday sit on the Joe Pride-trained Headley Grange ($2.40 fav) who will be shooting for a hat-trick of wins when he contests the Fujistu Airstage Handicap (1600m).

After an unlucky effort first-up on Boxing Day over 1300m at Randwick, Headley Grange has strung back-to-back wins together at Wyong over 1300m and last stat at Randwick, with Schiller confident he maps to get the right run on Saturday from a low draw.

“He seems like a really nice horse,” Schiller said. “He has always shown that good bit of ability coming from the country area and he has gone through the grades fairly quickly.

“He should settle just behind the speed maybe even midfield; he hasn’t got a lot of gate speed but he has got a really good turn of foot.

“Hopefully being held up we can get him to a lane and out into a bit of room.”
