Rosehill Winners - Tips For Wednesday 17th November

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Rosehill meeting. Selections based on a good to soft track.

Race 1 - 2:00PM HARRY ANGEL @ DARLEY HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

5. Waverider Buoy makes her debut on the back of one trial but there was plenty to like about it as she worked home into a close third under no pressure. Finds James McDonald to ride and you’d imagine there’s improvement off that trial. Hard to beat.
Dangers: 3. Calgary Stampede has the benefit of two trials and should get plenty of favours here on debut. He’s from the Snowden yard and cost $350,000, commands plenty of respect. 4. Swift Sweet comes into this off two trials as well and was able to win the latest narrowly on a heavy track. Imagine she will press forward from gate six and is worth keeping safe. 6. Wollombi ran third behind Swift Sweet in her latest trial and was five lengths behind Calgary Stampede in her first hitout. Looks a place chance.

How to play it: Waverider Buoy WIN ($2.80 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Waverider Buoy runs third in a trial at Rosehill on November 8

Race 2 - 2:35PM VINERY HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

12. Finepoint looks a good each-way chance at her second start after a more than handy debut at Kembla. She took some winding up there at the 1200m so going up in distance looks to suit. She’s drawn well so if she can hold a closer position she’s every hope of featuring in the finish.

Dangers: 11. Tavi L’Amour disappointed first-up as a $1.75 favourite at Newcastle, she settled back and just didn’t get into the finish as she was beaten under three lengths. It wasn’t a bad run just not one befitting an odds-on chance. Fitter for that and with any luck she can improve. 9. Banana Queen looked all over a winner on debut at Kembla but was just outgunned late. Stays at 1400m and from the inside alley should be afforded an easy passage. Definite chance. 3. Adair was strong late at his first outing at Newcastle and given he more than doubled his price in the market it says there’s plenty of improvement. Has a sticky gate but he’s one to keep an eye on.

How to play it: Finepoint E/W ($9.50 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Finepoint runs fourth at Kembla Grange on October 23

Race 3 - 3:10PM PRECISE FIRE HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

11. Comrade Rosa looks a progressive filly and she had plenty on her rivals in an easy debut win at Kembla two weeks ago. Stays at 1200m but can only have upside and if she can find a back to follow before making her run, as she did on debut, she’ll be hard to hold out.

Dangers: 4. Shihonka smashed a maiden field, and the runner-up has won twice since, first-up at Wyong in September but failed up in class to a Group 3 at Caulfield. Freshened up and won a recent trial easily. Should be on speed and can take running down. 7. Sachello is hard to knock with two tough on pace wins since a break over shorter trips. She’s drawn to lead or take a sit behind the lead and it’ll be interesting to see how she measures up. Read trainer Matthew Dunn's comments here. 10. Nashira was a drifter in betting on debut but finished strongly to win at Hawkesbury. He's drawn the inside this time and is worth keeping in mind.

How to play it: Comrade Rosa WIN ($3.80 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 4 - 3:45PM TAB HANDICAP (1500 METRES)

7. Dynasties found herself a long way back first-up at Newcastle but worked home strongly into second behind a promising type. Better for that and has an extra 100m and an inside gate here so if she can be in touch she’s a good chance to pick them up.

Dangers: 9. Capri Of Tuffy is an honest mare who bumped into Norwegian Bliss three runs back and found one better in two subsequent runs. Just the one win in 20 starts but she’s rarely far away and is in the mix. 2. Buba was far too strong at her second run for Kim Waugh winning easily on a heavy track at Hawkesbury. Yet to win on a good track in nine starts and all three wins have been in the heavy so that’s a minor concern. 4. Nothinsweetaboutme knocked up after sitting on the pace first-up at Canterbury. Might get some control in this small field so could easily be an improver.

How to play it: Dynasties WIN ($3.10 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Dynasties runs second at Newcastle on October 30

Race 5 - 4:20PM RANVET HANDICAP (1800 METRES)

8. Rebel Rama resumed with a game win on a heavy track then was far from disgraced in the Four Pillars after getting a long way back. Even better suited out to this distance now and she has to be given a strong chance.

Dangers: 5. Jesse James is really starting to hit his straps and atoned for a second-up defeat with a runaway win at Newcastle out to this sort of trip. Steps up to midweek grade now and will need a bit of early luck but he should measure up though five weeks between runs is a small query. 4. Atlantic King did a good job to win at Randwick two weeks ago in a return to his best form. Raced handy and worried them out of it late. Extra 200m holds no fears and he could easily repeat in a similar field. 16. Good Omens disappointed after leading in the same race but while she was safely held she didn’t drop right out. Expect improvement if she can find some cover this time. 2. Jojo Was A Man was runner-up in that race after sitting outside the leader. Expect he’ll look to do something similar here and can’t be left out.

How to play it: Rebel Rama E/W ($6.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 6 - 4:55PM ACY SECURITIES HANDICAP (1500 METRES)

4. Francesco Guardi might be one run away from his top but he’s well suited back up in trip after a solid effort at Rosehill behind Zoushack. That was with six weeks between runs and back in distance so he’ll be fitter, draws well and has the leading rider. Hard to beat.

Dangers: 5. Too Much Caviar enjoyed a good run in front and held them at bay to win first-up at Randwick over 1300m. Has an extra 200m here but if he’s allowed to dictate again he will take plenty of running down. 3. Born A King was solid in chasing home Too Much Caviar first-up in Australia and on his overseas form he will want every bit of this trip and some more. Has a weight swing of 1.5kg in his favour and he’s a likely improver. 13. I Am Lethal is an up and comer who fought hard to win second-up at Randwick and break through at his third outing. Can only continue to improve and while this is tougher he’s in good hands and not to be dismissed.

How to play it: Francesco Guardi E/W ($6.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Francesco Guardi runs fourth at Rosehill on November 6

Race 7 - 5:30PM XXXX HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

11. Zarastro is a very promising colt who rounded up a small field to win impressively when resuming at Canterbury three weeks ago. He bumped into Paulele at his only other start and to win a BM68 as a maiden fresh stands him in good stead as he’ll relish the extra ground. With even luck he can repeat.

Dangers: 2. Savoury looks set for a handy first-up showing at good odds based on a sharp trial effort over 800m recently. He can handle himself when fresh and draws soft so it wouldn’t surprise if he gives some cheek. 5. Rubamos sat outside the leader and raced clear to win nicely when resuming at Canterbury and could well find himself in a similar on speed spot here. If he can put two good runs together he’s a contender. 9. Lennon was only getting warm at the end of 1000m first-up so pay little attention to the fact he ran last. His second-up record is good, this trip suits better and at the odds he could surprise.

How to play it: Zarastro WIN ($2.70 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.
