Rosehill Gardens & Canterbury Park In Festival Spirit This Weekend

Group racing returns to Rosehill Gardens this Saturday as Australian Turf Club prepares to host three consecutive weeks of back-to-back meetings heading into Sydney’s popular summer and Christmas period.

Tomorrow at Canterbury Park, the second Kia Friday Night Racing meeting of the season, featuring a dress-up party theme, is held before a bumper card of racing at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

All patrons are asked to pre-purchase and pre-register tickets for all Australian Turf Club meetings at TheRaces.com.au

The $160,000 Group 3-Fujitsu General Festival Stakes, Listed $140,000 ATC Cup and the Listed $140,000 Schweppes Starlight Stakes are part of a nine-race card at Rosehill Gardens which has attracted 129 entries.

In one of several wide-open betting fields, the James Cummings Godolphin trained Phaistos is the early $5 TAB favourite for jockey Brenton Avdulla in the Fujitsu General Festival Stakes.

Outrageous ($6) for Hawkes Racing and jockey Tommy Berry and Through The Cracks ($6) for Gosford trainer Angela Davies and jockey Robbie Dolan are next in betting.

Godolphin runner Ranier ($8.50) ridden by Hugh Bowman is aiming to become only the second horse in more than 70 years to win consecutive Festival Stakes.

In the Listed $140,000 ATC Cup, Bonvicini for top jockey Kerrin McEvoy and trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace heads TAB markets at $4 in another competitive betting race.

Jockey Tim Clark is looking to win his third consecutive $140,000 Schweppes Starlight Stakes aboard the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou-trained Villami ($8).

The mare sits behind early TAB favourites in the race Varda ($4) for James Cummings and Kerrin McEvoy, and Snitz ($4.80) trained by Matthew Dunn and ridden by Nash Rawiller.

The Rosehill Gardens track was rated a Good 4 on Thursday morning. The first race at Rosehill Gardens jumps at 1.15pm (gates open 12.15pm) whilst the first race at Canterbury Park is due at 6.15pm (gates open 5.15pm).

The following Australian Turf Club meeting after Saturday will be a special family Christmas event at a twilight meeting at Royal Randwick on 4 December.
