Australian Turf Club’s record-breaking 2019 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival comes to a close this Saturday for a final celebration at Royal Randwick on Schweppes All Aged Stakes Day.
The Group 1 $600,000 Schweppes All Aged Stakes and Group 1 $500,000 Moët & Chandon Champagne Stakes are part of a big nine-race card to cap a historic and spectacular six weeks at Rosehill Gardens and Royal Randwick.
Godolphin will be aiming to finish its own memorable Sydney Autumn Racing carnival with two strong chances in the Group 1 Schweppes All Aged Stakes – favourite Osborne Bulls ($2.50 on TAB fixed odds) for trainer James Cummings and the international visitor D’Bai ($5) for trainer Charlie Appleby.
Chris Waller – who reached 100 Group 1 career wins with Winx’s momentous farewell at Royal Randwick last week – has Youngstar ($31) as his only Group 1 runner this Saturday.
In the Group 1 $500,000 Moët & Chandon Champagne Stakes, the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained Loving Gaby, to be ridden by James McDonald, is the early $2.30 TAB favourite.
James McDonald is the leading Group 1 rider of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival with four wins. McDonald is also riding Le Romain ($12) in the Group 1 $600,000 Schweppes All Aged Stakes.
Saturday’s huge card of 131 final acceptances also includes four Group 3 races – the $160,000 Cellarbrations Frank Packer Plate, $160,000 Hong Kong Jockey Club J H B Carr Stakes, $160,000 Japan Racing Association Plate and $160,000 TAB Hall Mark Stakes.
Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager of Racing Services and Membership, James Heddo, said Saturday would complete one of the most memorable Sydney Autumn Racing carnivals in many decades.
“The Australian Turf Club has posted record crowds and showcased world-class racing that will live in the memories of people for many years to come,” Mr Heddo said.
“From three weeks at Rosehill Gardens and the biggest Longines Golden Slipper crowd in decades to last week’s sold-out farewell for Winx at Royal Randwick, 2019 Sydney Autumn Racing has been one of our most successful ever carnivals.
“We were thrilled to host Winx for her final two ever starts and this Saturday at Royal Randwick will be a fitting final celebration of the 2019 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.”
