Punter's Intelligence Wrap - XXXX Golden Eagle Day

The highly anticipated $10 million Golden Eagle (1500m) lived up to expectations with a thrilling finish between star four-year-olds I Wish I Win and Fangirl, who fought out the concluding stages in an exciting battle.

Jockey Luke Nolen got victor I Wish I Win into a midfield position with cover, and once produced at the top of the straight, Punter’s Intelligence recorded his electric turn of foot.

The gelding made a long-wide sustained run and ran the race’s fastest 400m-200m split in 11.14. Additionally, he maintained a strong finishing speed to the line to hold off the late challenge.

Expect him to only improve in his next preparation after going out on a career peak figure.

The race was run at a fast pace, with leader In The Congo running the first 900m in 52.91, which was approximately 15 lengths faster than the Furphy Handicap (1500m) and 7 lengths quicker than the Four Pillars Midway (1500m).

Fangirl was outstanding in defeat after a perfect ride from Hugh Bowman. Further, she drew barrier 17 and, as expected, got a long way back from the draw.

The mare made a weaving run through the field whilst being checked/blocked at stages, but once in clear air, she surged to the line clocking the race’s fastest final 200m sectional in 11.52 and just missed on the line.

Her ratings profile suggests she is clearly superior and excels when on top of the ground.

Gypsy Goddess resumed with the blinkers on and was forced back into the slightly inferior ground but just kept finding the line.

She clocked 34.78 for her final 600m and watch for her next prep over more distance.

Hope In Your Heart proved she could make the grade and ran the second-quickest final 200m of the race in 11.54.

Hinged was honest and forget import Light Infantry’s run where nothing went right for him.

Private Eye backed up his second-place finish in the TAB Everest (1200m) with a dominant win in the Nature Strip Stakes (1300m) which was run at a moderate tempo.

The five-year-old has gone to a new level this prep, and he showed a burst of acceleration, clocking the fastest final 600m sectional of the entire meeting in 33.18.

He has shown he can sprint off slow/fast tempos and is on an upwards ratings spiral.

The hidden run of the race was ninth place Brutality, who wasn’t suited by the pace of the race but still ran the second-quickest final 600m of the meeting in 33.49.

He has produced three fantastic runs this prep and is on target for his grand final, The Gong.

Mazu continued to be a model of consistency running second and Rocketing By didn’t have much luck.

Riodini is ticking over well, clocking the race’s third-fastest final 200m split in 11.44 and forgive favourite Lost And Running, who was found to be lame post-race.

The Ned Australian Whisky Handicap (1300m) was run at a farcical tempo, with multiple sectional performers.

Cotehele led at a very slow pace running the first 700m in 43.67, which was approximately 10 lengths slower in comparison to the Nature Strip Stakes (1300m), as previously referenced.

He dictated in front and gave those settling behind him mathematically little chance of catching him. Moreover, still to his credit, he bolted in and ran 22.67 for his final 400m.

Democracy Manifest was the flashing light run after having too much to do.

The gelding was checked at the start, settled at the field’s rear, and got too far back.

He hit the line hard, running the meeting’s fifth-quickest final 200m split in 11.09. Watch for him in a similar grade next start.

Savoury and Trust The Process exceeded market expectations and both ran well.
Numerous sectional standout runs at the feature meeting are worth mentioning.

Party For One has been costly, but she is ready to win and was the only horse to break 11 seconds for their final 200m of the meeting.

She competed in The Agency Real Estate Handicap (1200m) and ran 10.95 for that split which was hidden relative to her finishing position.

Gin Martini had no luck in the Precise Air Handicap (1900m) and has a solid platform to improve again over a further distance.

Hezashocka should’ve won the Rosehill Gold Cup (2000m), but import Athabascan ran on well and clocked the race’s fastest final 600m in 34.20.

Fastest last 600m: Private Eye 33.18
