Second-up specialist Zoumon put on a brave display at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday to win the feature W J McKell Cup (2000m) and recorded a fast overall time relative to the day.
The track pattern was advantageous to those racing on the speed throughout the day, but Zoumon's win had merit.
From an overall pace rating perspective, the four-year-old led at a genuine tempo.
Punter's intelligence recorded that he ran his first 1400m in 1:31.05, approximately 26 lengths faster than the Benchmark 78 (2000m) for that section.
However, Tim Clark did back off the tempo between the 1200m-600m and conserved some energy before the sprint went on.
The gelding kept finding under pressure to his credit and ran the race's second-fastest final 200 in 11.60. He will likely progress to the Graton Cup (2350m) and be competitive there.
Bold Mac had every chance but tried hard in defeat and ran the race's quickest final 400m in 22.71. He beat the rest easily and is racing in career-best form.
Bois D'Argent exerted all his energy between the 800-400m making a long-wide sustained run for that section in 22.55 and peaked on his run late.
Fawkner Park is an improving stayer and went to a new level again, making it three wins in a row.
He stalked the farcical tempo as referenced above, but there was plenty of merit in the back end of the clock.
The Import didn't particularly like being crowded in the straight, but once jockey Chad Schofield changed whip hands, the gelding surged to the line to score.
He clocked the entire meeting fastest furlong in 11.09. Follow.
Miracle Spin continues to exceed market expectations, and his run had sectional merit. He clocked the race's fastest final 600m in 32.98.
One of the more intriguing races of the day was the Benchmark 72 over 1100m, with multiple runners resuming.
Brudenell had all favours but returned well, carrying top weight and fending off the late challengers.
Waverider Buoy hit the line hard late and ran only a tick outside the fastest final 200m of the race in 11.16.
Arguably the run of the day was Tintookie, who had too much to do after drifting back from an awkward gate and then had the pace/bias against.
She made a long-wide sustained run against the day's pattern and clocked the meeting fastest final 600m in a slick 32.68.
The filly can settle much closer with a more positive race setup and is suited over more ground.
Vegas Raider ran well, running 21.96 between the 600m-200m but just peaked on her run. She will be fitter for that effort.
Two hidden runs in the Midway Handicap (1500m) were Sweet Mercy and Burning Need who both weren't suited to the race shape.
Sweet Mercy uncharacteristically missed the start and got too far back. She ran one of the fastest last 200m splits of the day in 11.26.
Burning Need almost ran an identical split in 11.30 and is racing well without luck.
It's worth mentioning Gelatin, who should've won the opening two-year-old event over 1400m.
He is one to follow and can take a more forward position from a softer gate.
Fastest last 600m: Tintookie 32.68
