Trainer Joe Pride has thrown out the warning to anyone who tries to lead his promising filly Kylease that it will only cost themselves any chance in Saturday’s Group 3 $200,000 Blacktown Workers Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m).

Kylease steps out of restricted company for the first time after three impressive all the way wins on end and Pride is confident she’s not finished yet.

Most speed maps have the filly in a battle for the lead but there’ll be no battle according to Pride.

“They won't be able to lead her, she is extremely quick,’’ he said.

“She had a trial at Hawkesbury one day and she could have led Ball Of Muscle.

“It's not necessarily the way to beat her by leading her, I think anything that tries to lead her will bring themselves undone and what happens beyond there is up to them.’’

The filly holds TAB favouritism at $2.70 to give Pride his second Hawkesbury Guineas, following Neeson in 2010, and not only is he confident she can win on Saturday he says there are better wins in store.

Pride has a handy measuring stick for a three-year-old filly in the unbeaten Fasika, who posted her first stakes win in the South Pacific Classic two weeks ago, so the question was asked, given Fasika’s recent black type success, how far behind her is Kylease?

“I wouldn't say she is behind, they are a bit different but I'm confident she will make the top grade,’’ he said.

“You've always got to be cautious of horses in their first preparation and how far they will go. She is going through the grades as I would have expected, it's nice to see them do it because you never take it for granted.

“Every indication is she is thriving, I'm confident the 1400m will suit her. She has real stamina, I'm pleased to have a horse with that mix of speed and stamina.’’

Hawkesbury agrees with Pride’s multiple stakes winning mare Pecans who chases her third feature race win there in the Group 3 $175,000 Killahy Equine Crown (1400m).

The five-year-old won the race last year and in the spring she also claimed the Ladies Day Cup over the same course.

Pecans has been on the market ahead of her return, she's due to be sold on May 3, and Pride said she’s done more than enough work with three recent trials to defend her title.

“Her trackwork rider Justin Sheehan tells me she's going better than ever so I hope he is right,’’ he said.

“She is not a flash trialler, so when people are looking at her trials I wouldn't be judging her on them but I thought her last trial was very good.’’

Pecans started $17 when she won the race in 2018 and on Friday was a $6 chance with TAB.
