Racing NSW Stewards have this morning acceded to a request from trainer Luke Pepper to fit OPAL RIDGE with concussion plates (front) to compete in The Kosciuszko at Royal Randwick on Saturday (14th October).
Opal Ridge was, along with all declared runners in The Kosciuszko, subjected to an official veterinary examination on Tuesday 10th October and, at this time, was passed as suitable to race.
Mr Pepper advised Stewards that his farrier this morning recommended the application of concussion plates as he had detected some mild sensitivity in the mare’s near fore heel.
Mr Pepper further advised that the use of concussion plates was a precaution and that Opal Ridge had worked well when having her final gallop on Monday morning, had not missed any work subsequently and he has had no concerns with the mare since.
Opal Ridge will be monitored by Racing NSW Veterinary Officers prior to racing on Saturday.
