Nominations Open For 2021 Longines Golden Slipper

The journey to the race every owner first wants to win, the Group 1 $3.5 million Longines Golden Slipper at Rosehill Gardens, takes an important step with nominations opening for rising two-year-olds.

Australian Turf Club will offer a six-week window for first nominations for the 65th running of the race, closing on Tuesday, 14 July 2020.

Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing Services, James Heddo, said early interest in an opening nomination date has again highlighted the significance of the race for the Australian Thoroughbred Industry.

“The Longines Golden Slipper is the race that shapes and defines the Australian racing industry like no other and we are expecting that our 2021 renewal will unearth another champion in a long line of champion gallopers,” Mr Heddo said.

“With a number of yearling sales being delayed this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Australian Turf Club has moved the entry date back a week to ensure we enter the vast majority of eligible horses.”

The pathway towards the Longines Golden Slipper has been strengthened again this year with part of the prizemoney for the winner of the Inglis Millennium now counted in the ballot order.

“The race conditions now allow for $69,500 of the winner's prizemoney of the Inglis Millennium to be considered toward the official Longines Golden Slipper ballot, the equivalent of a Sydney minimum Listed race for 2YOs,” Mr Heddo said.

“This is a positive result for owners as it ensures that opportunities exist to qualify two-year-olds almost every week from early October to March. Australian Turf Club again looks forward to hosting Sydney’s signature race at our world-class racing and spectator facilities at Rosehill Gardens in 2021.”
