Neil Evans's Tips For Wednesday's Warwick Farm Race Meeting

By Neil Evans

Warwick Farm is rated a Soft 7 with the rail out 5m from the 1000m to the winning post, and out 3m the remainder. Weather is overcast with the chance of showers and a maximum of 25 deg.

Race 1 (2:20pm) HARRY ANGEL FIRST YEARLINGS HANDICAP (1400m)

The boys open up on a track should slowly improve back into the soft range. Returning to metro company, three-year-old 6. Russian Ruble ($5 on TAB) has campaigned hard on the provincial circuit, twice missing by under a length when finishing strongly from midfield. Been given 25 days for the slight drop back in distance and although taking on some slicker ones here, he's the best value in the race.

Dangers: Improving 3. Publicist ($2 favourite) went forward from the same barrier resuming here and stuck on okay behind a heavily-backed winner, while 4. Indifference ($6.50) is fitter after making up some late ground on debut in that same race. Watch the betting on 8. Densaur ($7.50) who comes to town after a fighting return run on the South Coast.

How to play it: Russian Ruble to win and box exacta 3,4,6
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 (2:55pm) VINERY HANDICAP (1400m)

Loved how Sebring filly 4. Soprano ($4.80) kept surging home from a mile back first-up on the Beaumont Track when left without any cover from the 600m. Bred to be even more effective on soft ground and carries only half kilo more after the jockey's full claim.

Dangers: Well-bred Pierro filly 1. Chenin ($4 fav) will be hard to hold out on debut. Had two trials for a strong stable and drew a low gate with blinkers on. Include 7. Scat's Surfer Girl ($6) resuming after two progressive trials and 8. Decisive Move ($6.50) second-up in exotics.

How to play it: Soprano to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 (3:30pm) STUD AND STABLE STAFF AWARDS HANDICAP (1000m)

Two runners can 'boss' this race. Progressive and lightly raced home track filly 5. Rupertaar ($2.70 fav) has won both starts this prep, the lastest sitting off the speed and sweeping home in dominant fashion at the provincials. Step up in class looks well within her reach, especially drawn to get a charmed run along the inside and carrying only 1kg over the limit after the rider's claim. The one to beat.

Dangers: Also lightly-raced five-year-old 1. De Grawin ($3.10) chased home a smart winner resuming in stronger grade. First time for a while back in 72 Class and draws to get a nice stalking role just off the speed, but the handicapper has asked the question up sharply to 61.5kg. Resuming four-year-old 2. Sixgun ($5.50) has plenty of ability. Trialled quietly but normally fires when on the fresh side. Keep safe honest mare 3. Duchess ($6.50) resuming behind two trials.

How to play it: Rupertaar to win
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 4 (4:05pm) KEENELAND HANDICAP (1600m)

Take-Two in this grade but out over the mile journey. Always been a fan of five-year-old 2. Travest ($4.20) who has gone off the boil since a strong effort surging home from well back at Kembla on feature "The Gong" day. Suspecting the constant big weights were taking their toll, but back in grade under a fair 57kg with blinkers on for the first time is a key move.

Dangers: Locally-trained 4. So Sneeky ($4.20) led all the way to win a country BM 69 second-up, while 7. Jungle Book ($4 fav) can figure third-up.

How to play it: Travest to win
Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 5 (4:40pm) BOWERMANS HANDICAP (1400m)

The older mares lock horns in another open contest. Talented Godolphin mare 3. Nikau ($3.80) can go right on with the job on in this after driving home impressively second-up at the provincials. Drawn to find a similar position right behind the speed and this is well within her reach very much on an upward trend.

Dangers: Plenty of them headed by lightly raced mare 9. Atlantic Seas ($3.50 fav) who will relish the longer trip after making up late ground resuming here. Tough country mare 8. Girls Are Ready ($5) comes to town at an ideal time, back on her preferred rain-affected ground. Came off a dominant Federal win in Canberra to again hit the line hard in the Moruya Cup. Both 7. O'tartan Lass ($6.50) who resumes behind two tidy trials, and 11. Mystic Rebel ($6.50) second-up with blinkers applied are knock-out hopes at odds.

How to play it: Nikau to win and trifecta: 3,8,9/3,8,7,9,11/3,8,7,9,11
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 6 (5:15pm) XXXX HANDICAP (1400m)

The boys' edition is even wider and tougher with any number of chances. Leaning to home track five-year-old 6. Savoury ($6) who should be right at his peak fourth-up and significantly is on a seven-day back-up. Was fancied at a bigger price when working home strongly in a better BM 72 last time, and saves his best for soft ground.

Dangers: Big watch on smart home track four-year-old 11. Nishikori ($4.60 equal fav) having his first run since early spring behind two progressive trials. Nicely bred five-year-old 5. Montserrat ($7) hasn't raced since early June, but comes to hand quickly and draws the inside. Bolted in the second of two recent trials and if he gets a good look at them from the 350m, will be hard to hold out. Expecting serious improvement third-up from 2. Zell ($8) with some much-needed weight relief.

How to play it: Savoury to win and box exacta 5,6,11
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 (5:50pm) TAB HANDICAP (1200m)

Trained on the track, resuming six-year-old 2. Off Shaw ($2.90 fav) has two fresh wins from five attempts and returns in a suitable race behind two strong open class trials. Superior wet tracker and over the odds.

Dangers: Resuming 4. Conceited ($4.40) has been fitted with two quiet trials, while 3. Silent Agenda ($10) gets a 3kg claim first-up..

How to play it: Off Shaw to win
Odds and Evens: Evens
