Race 1 (6:15pm) HYLAND RACE COLOURS PLATE (1550M) |
---|
We kick off with a middle-distance maiden at set weights. Warwick Farm filly 9. Moremi ($3 favourite on TAB) can look forward to a far more economical run in transit after covering plenty of ground on debut at Wyong, and the effort to finish under two lengths from Mollycoddle was very good. Expect her to be well-tried again from this draw, and with senior metro hoop going on.
Dangers: Another 3YO 2. Harapan ($5.50) has been solid enough in two runs to start his career. Out to a longer trip, down 2kg, and with a much stronger jockey engaged they're all reasons he can break through. Improving 3YO 6. Segal ($6.50) didn't have much luck resuming at Kembla when hard enough in the market and is drawn to get a better run.
How to play it: Moremi to win and box exacta 2,6,9. Odds and Evens: Split
Race 2 (6:45pm) SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (1100M) |

Progressive colt 5. Supremo ($4) only went down by a neck after leading here resuming over 1200m a fortnight back. Trainer has applied the blinkers and the little drop in distance is a key. Was scratched from a later race to be saved for this.
Dangers: Well-bred filly 6. La Foret ($2.40 fav) looks set for a good campaign returning off some smart work at the trials. Was only beaten narrowly in two runs through winter and has good tactical speed. Be surprised if one of those two doesn't win, but big watch on 3YO 7. Wild Wind ($7) who resumes as a gelding for a strong stable off a trial win. Draws to get a nice trail with winkers on for the first time. Godolphin filly 8. Virgo ($4) has also been an eye-catching performer at the trials and similarly resumes off two runs in winter to start her career.
How to play it: Supremo to win and first four 5,6/5,6,7,8/5,6,7,8/5,6,7,8. Odds and Evens: Split
Race 3 (7:15pm) TAB PLATE (1250M) |

A wide-open field, again dominated by 3YOs. Lightly-raced filly 10. Ayemgee ($4.20 fav) was impressive first-up off a long break in a provincial maiden, doing plenty of early work from the wide gate before attacking the line. Franking that run, the second-placed horse then came out and beat a good maiden field at Newcastle on Tuesday. Drawn much better here carrying 1kg less, and she's the one to beat.
Dangers: Got plenty of time for ex-Kiwi 4YO 1. Jessie James ($4.80) who charged home under this weight to beat all bar the winner first-up at Gosford. May still find this a bit short being by Reliable Man, but watch for him riding into town late. Supremely-bred 3YO 7. Tycoonist ($5) is out of the smart Listed-winning mare Doubtfilly and has his first run as a gelding from the inside draw five weeks following a plain effort on the Kensington Track. Was given a recent easy trial and the market will have a big say. Another 3YO, 9. Volterra ($7.50) resumes as a gelding off a 10-week break for the leading stable. Has trialled okay and fresh form is handy enough.
How to play it: Ayemgee to win. Odds and Evens: Split
Race 4 (7:45pm) ANZ BLOODSTOCK NEWS HANDICAP (1900M) |

Out in distance now for the older horses and there are a few chances. Progressive 4YO 6. Kutayha ($2.50 fav) is on the up and ready to win at fifth run in this prep. Stepped up to this trip last start here and worked home nicely in a race not run to suit. The one to beat.
Dangers: Improving mare 4. Glamour Fox ($5.50) did her best work late in the same race here behind the top selection after consecutive provincial wins. Honest 5YO 1. Bobby Dee ($5) stuck on fairly after leading in a strong race at Newcastle on The TAB Hunter day and the stable has off-set a big weight rise by engaging a form 2kg apprentice. Draws to roll forward again from the inside but would need to steal a cheap mid-race sectional to get away with this. Stablemate 5YO 5. Harpo Marx ($6) hit the line from well back resuming in a provincial BM 64 over the mile and will relish the extra ground.
How to play it: Kutayha to win. Odds and Evens: Split
Race 5 (8:15pm) RANVET HANDICAP (1250M) |

Consistent 4YO 1. Let It Pour ($3.10) comes up with her best draw since a dominant all-the-way maiden win first-up in late August. Has since been close-up in deeper races, often without much luck in the run and despite the sharp weight rise, she can win again.
Dangers: Nice 3YO filly 8. Selburose ($2.20 fav) is on the rise and looks well in at the weig.50hts despite stepping up from a maiden win here to this level. She has come through some strong maiden depth this prep and will roll forward from a middle gate. Capable mare 5. Miss Twilight ($5) was in and around the money in four provincial runs before giving nothing else a chance leading all the way at Goulburn in a useful Class 3. Not well treated at the weights but she'll give a big sight if there's an on-speed pattern. Newcastle 5YO 3. Leave Me Some ($9) steps up in grade after back-to-back wins at Pt Macquarie and looks over the odds from the draw.
How to play it: Let It Pour to win and quinella 1 and 8. Odds and Evens: Split
Race 6 (8:45pm) BOWERMANS COMMERCIAL FURNITURE HANDICAP (1200M) |

All-comers here 3YO and Up, and a smart 5YO resuming for his first run in NSW threatens to dominate the market. UK-bred 3. Super Contender ($2.15 fav) didn't finish further back than second in his first prep, bolting in twice at the Gold Coast as a hot favourite. Naturally comes to hand quickly off a quiet trial and this isn't overly strong.
Dangers: Ultra consistent 4YO 9. Ranges (N/A) hasn't missed a place in his last five and draws to get a lovely on-speed position, with blinkers removed. Improving mare and ex-Victorian 5. Ambleve ($5) finished well second-up in a similar race for the new metro stable. Big-finishing 5YO 1. Lancaster Bomber ($6) did his best work late resuming here and is a peak second-up performer over a little more ground. Will be ridden cold from the wide barrier. Don't under-sell 5YO 10. Deploys Alone ($18) at big odds after a terrific BM 66 win at Dubbo for new Scone stable and trainer has a great record when he brings them to town.
How to play it: Super Contender to win and quinella 3 and 9. Odds and Evens: Odds a special
Race 7 (9:15pm) KIA EVENING STAR (1250M) |

Plenty of chances in this one headed by resuming 5YO 3. Charretera ($3.90) who is normally right around the mark fresh and has trialled okay at home. A prolific placegetter from 21 starts, he didn't miss by much first-up last time in a deeper race. Likes to settle back off the speed and attack the line.
Dangers: Improving 5YO 10. Phoenix Global ($4.20) was run down late in his first run for a new provincial stable since transferring from Victoria. Draws to get a nice trail and a significant drop in weight. Talented Hawkesbury 5YO 4. Zouologist ($3.80 fav) has been banging on the door this prep, beaten narrowly in all three runs. Gets his chance to break the frustration drawn inside and with a serious drop in weight after the claim.
How to play it: Charretera to win and box exacta 3,4,10. Odds and Evens: Split
Race 8 (9:45pm) IRON JACK HANDICAP (1550M) |
---|
We close the meeting with an open and even field over the middle trip. Impressive 4YO 2. Criminal Code ($4.60) should have nearly won here getting home hard to miss by a head in his first Sydney run for the Chris Waller stable, despite being unwanted in betting. Former WA galloper who was placed in the WA Derby (2400m) in autumn and while he's used to performing over further, has been kept reasonably fresh.
Dangers: Progressive colt 11. Private Cheetah ($3.10 fav) will go forward from a handy gate and be tough to get past. Still in his first prep, led all the way to win his maiden three runs back and held on okay in a deeper race at Randwick last start. Stablemate 5YO mare to top selection 5. Star Karen ($7.50) worked home nicely from midfield in that same race and is best of the rest.
How to play it: Criminal Code to win and quinella 2 and 11. Odds and Evens: Split
BEST BETS: R1 9. MOREMI, R4 6. KUTAYHA
BEST VALUE: R8 2. CRIMINAL CODE
