Neil Evans' Tips For Muswellbrook (Monday)

By Neil Evans

Track Soft 5 and rail out 2.5m from 1000m to 300m into a Cutaway

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1000m):

Tricky race to start, and market could swing on a pair of 2YO Newcastle fillies who are both drawn wide, but 12. Fanciful Dream resuming gets the nod. Raced against stronger earlier in the year, and did win a trial in smart fashion, but will need luck from the widest alley.

Dangers: 10. Cerinthe Belle (Uncle Mo x Cerinthe by Exceed And Excel) is bred to go quick, and has had two trials for leading trainer/rider combination. Wyong 2YO 9. Zapluck is better than his last effort at Kembla when specked in the market, and can improve significantly from the good draw at third start; while 2YO Scone filly 11. Emperor's Star was okay on debut this track, but also draws off the track. Hawkesbury 3YO gelding 1. Bully Rock is yet to run a place from six starts, but showed improvement second run back at Kembla.

How play it: Trifecta 9-10-12/1-9-10-11-12.

Race 2 MAIDEN PLATE (1280m):

Wide open again, with several chances. Well bred Newcastle colt 5. The Premier debuted with a fair effort this track, and should improve.

Dangers: Rival Newcastle filly 8. Amplified had two fair runs in deeper company before trialling nicely at home, but has drawn a wide barrier. Newcastle 3YO 1. Freedom's Fire should be peaking after two solid runs back; while big watch on debutant Warwick Farm colt 13. With Trust (Trusting x Clover Lane by O'Reilly) who has had two quiet trials.

How to play it: The Premier to win.

Race 3 MAIDEN HCP (1450m):

Beautifully bred 3YO Scone gelding 2. Egyptian Amulet can progress here over longer trip after a steady closing run on debut at Dubbo. By boom sire from a multiple Group 1 place-getter, can settle back and finish over the top.

Dangers: Warwick Farm filly 1. Encumbrance is knocking on the door after three close seconds in four runs this prep, and draws the fence; while local 3YO filly 12. Polish Train has been finding the line okay in some decent maidens, and drops in weight.

How to play it: Egyptian Amulet each way and quinella 1 and 2.

Race 4 BM 66 HCP (1450m):

Thin race. Kembla mare 5. Burden Of Proof can break back into the winner's stall from the good trailing draw. Been up for a while, but has hit the line nicely in her last two, and ready to win.

Dangers: Wyong mare 4. Bryan's Baby found the line okay behind a smart horse, and even better suited this track, but up sharply in weight. Gosford 6YO 3. Ribs has been around the mark in two runs back, and this isn't strong; while watch for resuming Wellington 7YO 1. Steamin' who has a tonne of weight, but likes this trip fresh.

How to play it: Burden Of Proof to win.

Race 5 CL2 & ABOVE (1000m):

Wyong 5YO mare 11. Cunningar Lass looks suited first-up at big odds, despite the wide draw. Down in the weights, has looked good at the trials, and normally comes to hand quickly.

Dangers: Warwick Farm 4YO mare 7. Snitzagirl has been freshened back in trip via a nice trial, and gets her chance here. Big watch on resuming Newcastle 5YO 3. Yeoman who hasn't started for nine months, but trialled well and draws a nice barrier.

How to play it: Cunningar Lass each way.

Race 6 CL1 HCP (1000m):

Good sprint battle with plenty of depth. Talented 3YO Newcastle gelding 1. Nostro Re can bounce back here after getting lost back in the field as a well backed favourite at Gosford. Previously blitzed a maiden field on debut at Taree, and looks suited.

Dangers: Scone 5YO 2. Real Classic resumes off a long break, without an official trial, but has ability and was very good early in the prep last time; while rival Scone filly 6. Fritz's Factor progressed nicely to win her maiden at third run last prep, and draws a nice trailing gate for her return. Warwick Farm filly 7. Lucky Siren cruised home to win her maiden second-up at Goulburn for leading stable, and suited again this track; while Wyong filly 5. Pluck And Lucky also resumes, and has a good fresh record, although will need the breaks from a wide barrier.

How to play it: Nostro Re to win and trifecta 1-6/1-2-5-6-7.

Nostro Re's debut win at Taree on May 27

Race 7 BM 58 HCP (1280m):

Loved the first-up run of 4YO Newcastle mare 9. Off The Dial who closed strongly from well back in this grade. Normally peaks second-up and drawn to get a nice trail back in the pack.

Dangers: Scone 3YO gelding 3. Herzegovina came off a good trial to bolt in a good quality CL1 at Dubbo, and draws again to be in the finish, although weighted to his best. Tuncurry-based 6YO 5. Twelfth Raj has hit the line nicely under big weights in all three runs this prep, and draws to get a cosy run.

How to play it: Off The Dial each way.

Off The Dial runs fourth at Tamworth on June 18

Race 8 CL1 HCP (1280m):

Open affair again, but keen on 3YO Newcastle gelding 4. Resinite second-up. Did little resuming, but has since trialled, and improves significantly down in weight.

Dangers: Hawkesbury mare 1. Kathaire comes back from a good closing effort in a stronger BM 70 at Canterbury, and supremely weighted after rider's 4kg claim. Stablemate 3YO 3. Da Power can run a race fresh after trialling nicely; while Wyong 3YO 2. Sheeran has also trialled after failing badly over longer at Gunnedah when connections questioned his action and was scoped post-race, but previously was a dominant maiden winner this track, and draws to get a gun run.

How to play it: Resinite each way and box trifecta 1-2-3-4.

Race 9 CL1 HCP (1280m):

Looks the right race third-up for 3YO Newcastle gelding 2. Marakawa who was a dominant maiden winner two runs back at Mudgee before just missing in similar grade at Taree, and the winner has since won again.

Dangers: Rival Newcastle filly 7. Star Alibi looks the big threat after sweeping home to win her maiden on debut this track and trip, and draws the fence. Wyong 3YO 1. Cliff's Choice is weighted to his absolute best, but form in stronger company is solid enough, and draws to get a nice run.

How to play it: Marakawa to win and quinella 2 and 7.
