Lovely Looker Makes Plenty Of Appeal At $19 In Rosehill TAB Highway

By Tony Megahey

If accomplished Brett Dodson is hinting The Kosciuszko and has scratched Cool Storm from Doomben off a winning trial there, the striking dual winning speedster is big value at $19 on TAB at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

The giant chestnut mare contests as hot a TAB Highway (1200m) as it gets with six last start winners and a boom on unbeaten Intervarsity ($2.40 favourite) with the massive influence of James McDonald for the airborne Messara & Gavranich team.

And also the high rating of the Cavanough’s three-race winner Point Basse ($6.50) with Dylan Gibbons and scratched when favourite from the heavy at Muswellbrook last Monday.

They dominate the betting where Intervarsity could be unders because of “J-Mac” in a particularly deep episode with proven series winners and stables.

“It's a really strong Highway, I’ve been in a few, they don’t get any easier but there’s something about her - a lovely big strong mare, won well enough to deserve an opportunity,” offered the near three-decade Coffs Harbour trainer.

Cool Storm is well in on the 54kg limit in a class 3 and barrier five for in-form Zac Lloyd.

And it’s unlikely you’ll see a better looker all day than the tall chestnut with the white blaze and similar foreleg markings.

“She’ll stand out in the parade ring, she’s been racing up to her looks, up in grade obviously. It's a hot field but you’ve got to throw them in at the deep end eventually.

“She’s got 1000m speed so she’ll be on-pace at 1200m.”

And with Dodson confident enough to mention The Kosciuszko at 1400m, with tickets ON SALE NOW the 1200m won’t be a problem. Only the high potential of the favourites and the jockey elects.

However, Cool Storm has continued to progress since winning a Coffs Harbour maiden by a widening four lengths last December at $1.60.

This prep there were excuses resuming when third and trapped wide on the heavy at Newcastle last month off a winning Doomben trial.

And Cool Storm rebounded by leading all the way over 1000m at Grafton recently.

“You never know if they beat much in that grade but they can only win. And then step them up in grade to find their limits.

“But I’ve always had an opinion of her and she is two from three.”

Dodson has trained 354 winners over the years with a substantial team at Coffs and several Highway placings.

Meanwhile, Intervarsity has won twice by wide margins at Muswellbrook at $1.22 and $1.65 and resumes off a recent Scone barrier trial win.

Similarly, Point Basse resumes after dominant Scone wins in November at short odds and primed by recent barrier trials there and Muswellbrook.

At present 'The Gardens is a Soft 6 in fine weather with the rail out 7m.
