Kensington Winners - Tips For Wednesday 29th June

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Kensington meeting. Selections based on a good to soft track.

Race 1 - 12:15PM BOWERMANS HANDICAP (1150 METRES)

4. Himalaism went to the line untested in a close fourth here two weeks ago and it’ll be interesting to see what he can do when he gets a crack at them. Gate one should be a plus, at least early on, and he’s fitter. Always promised something and a good chance to deliver on it.

Dangers: 1. Airman was a $500,000 purchase and he showed improvement from a handy first trial to win at Rosehill on June 20 with a rails run in a 900m heat. Not sure where he gets to from a tricky gate but has to be respected. 11. Ithadtobezou had support on debut and wasn’t disgraced after sitting on the pace off a wide gate before weakening late. Kinder draw this time and no surprise if she lifts. 13. Diaco might have only beaten two home at his first run here back in February but it wasn’t a bad performance and he’s been given some time. Fitter for two trials, drawn very well and could surprise.

How to play it: Himalaism WIN ($3.50 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 2 - 12:50PM TAB HANDICAP (1150 METRES)

3. Ramones is now with Joe Pride and doesn’t need to improve a lot on what he’s done in two starts to give a big sight here. Bumped into Kibou on debut then game when leading here two weeks ago. Likely leader and hard to beat.

Dangers: 11. Parallel is an interesting first starter from the Chris Waller yard and there was something about his latest trial at Rosehill that suggests he can run a cheeky race. Any support would be significant but drawn to have his chance. 4. Sorgente was a handy third in the same race at Ramones at his first outing where he ran on from midfield. Probably gets back from the gate but sure to be hitting the line well again. 2. Flashing Steel showed promise in his first couple of starts with placings to Sweet Ride and Best Of Bordeaux so definitely has the ability. Not really exposed in his trials so might be one to keep a close eye on.

How to play it: Ramones WIN ($4.20 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Ramones runs second at Kensington on June 15

Race 3 - 1:25PM RANVET HANDICAP (1150 METRES)

8. Milk And Honey could be a huge improver on her debut where she beat one home but really wasn’t able to be let down at all. There was merit in her trials prior and with a bit more luck from another inside gate she’s an each-way chance.

Dangers: 2. Cabaca was specked in betting on debut and hit the line strongly from well back into a close second over 1100m here. Has another tough alley to deal with but if they are running on she’s capable of featuring. 1. What’s Going On went back from the outside gate and gained inside runs to run into third in a Saturday two-year-old event at Randwick. If she can repeat that performance she can be in the finish again. 4. Super Chilled produced a similar run to Cabaca to finish third in the same race, she got back from a wide gate and hit the line into the placings, and is well worth including in the chances again. 11. Smart Vengeance is another to consider, tackled some strong two-year-old races in January and showed some talent. Keep safe.

How to play it: Milk And Honey E/W ($18 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: EVENS.

Race 4 - 2:00PM CHINA HORSE CLUB HANDICAP (1250 METRES)

6. Parlayed ran right up to her odds-on quote when resuming with a dominant maiden win at Newcastle a few weeks ago. Has to transfer to a good track from that heavy track win but that’s no issue and she looks the one to beat.

Dangers: 4. Jayanthi might appreciate getting more on top of the ground after being outpointed by Cruel Summer on a heavy track a month ago. Started favourite in all four runs to date and sure to be well fancied again. 3. Flying Step had a tough run but was still too strong when breaking through at Canterbury three weeks ago. Another who must transfer that form to better ground but hard to knock. 2. Ever Bella showed she has come back well after a promising first campaign in the summer with a fast finishing win at Canterbury. Bit of a task from the outside with 61kg but can’t discount her.

How to play it: Parlayed WIN ($2.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: EVENS.

Race 5 - 2:35PM HYLAND RACE COLOURS HANDICAP (1800 METRES)

7. Media Starguest is a little hard to catch but he’s racing very well this time in and showed plenty of fight when narrowly beaten here two weeks ago. Has placed at this trip previously and with a bit of luck he’s more than capable of going close.

Dangers: 6. Karlstad was an impressive Canterbury winner second-up then while he had a nice run at Rosehill last time he was far from disgraced behind a couple of promising types. Another who will need some luck in transit but must respect. 14. The Milkybar Kid atoned for a first-up defeat with a runaway win over a mile at Wyong to post his first career win. Lightly raced and will go forward to offset the barrier. Capable of measuring up. 5. Brown Thomas produced his best form to break through over this course two weeks ago so it will be interesting to see if he can back it up. Shade harder with less restricted conditions and he rises 2kg but has a case.

How to play it: Media Starguest E/W ($7.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 6 - 3:10PM EARTHLIGHT @ DARLEY HANDICAP (1250 METRES)

9. Showtime Lady had no obvious excuses for a disappointing second-up performance but she’s well worth another chance here. Brilliant fresh winner and has trialled well since that last start effort. Soft track suits and she can bounce back to form.

Dangers: 2. Jal Lei likely gives away a start but she will be fitter for an even effort first-up at Warwick Farm. Winner at this track and trip back in August and has the blinkers on. Wide gate an issue but she can also improve. 7. Dalaalaat gets back and runs on and he’s very much a dry tracker so has conditions to suit. May be looking for a little further but did run on well again at Randwick last time in a Midway. Each-way. 1. He’s A Hotshot was a solid favourite here two weeks ago and it just didn’t work out for him from the wide gate. On his best form, he was narrowly beaten by Coal Crusher second-up, he can be right in the finish of this.

How to play it: Showtime Lady WIN ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 7 - 3:45PM VINERY YEARLINGS HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

4. Brimstone did have his chance second-up at Warwick Farm but does get a nice weight turnaround in his favour and he should be near his top now. Races handy has a good chance to go one better.

Dangers: 2. Go Troppo finished a bit too strongly for Brimstone in that clash but does cop that 3.5kg swing against him. That said he has to be a major threat again. 8. Speed Legend resumed with a solid effort on a heavy track over a month ago and has likely been waiting for the drier tracks to return, which he gets here. Consistent type and looms as a danger. 3. Imrahor had excuses for a shock first-up failure at Warwick Farm where he was well supported. Suffered a cut to the mouth and didn’t relish the heavy ground but has since trialled well. Watch for any support as he could jump out of the ground.

How to play it: Brimstone WIN ($3.60 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: EVENS.

Brimstone runs second at Warwick Farm on June 13

Race 8 - 4:20PM FURPHY HANDICAP (1150 METRES)

2. Billiondollarbaby didn’t do a bad job second-up at Randwick and will appreciate the track conditions and class drop on that effort. Drawn okay and entitled to be close to peak fitness now after those two runs. Good chance to be in the finish.

Dangers: 11. Zetarita shouldn’t be overlooked, she was excellent here last start when back to 1000m and badly held up at the tail of the field. Attacked the line as you’d like to see and interesting to see what she can do from a better gate. Keep safe. 1. Brazen Song is a big watch first run for Nathan Doyle. Not seen since tackling a Group 2 mares race in Adelaide and has trialled okay at Gosford. Nicely drawn and any support would be a good pointer. 6. Sneaky Paige found herself a little further back than expected when resuming here over 1000m in the same race as Zetarita but she was one of the strongest last getting within half a length. Fitter and she’s a definite chance.

How to play it: Billiondollarbaby E/W ($6.50 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.
