Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Kensington meeting. Selections based on a good track.

3. City Of Lights found the 1250m a bit short first-up here two weeks ago but you had to like how she found the line late. Up in trip now she may be able to settle closer and will naturally take improvement from that first outing. Looks hard to beat.

Dangers: 1. Harlow Mist progressed from wins at Goulburn and Scone to score over 1800m at Flemington almost a month ago so she obviously has some talent. Coming back in trip but is on the fresh side, drawn well and likes to race handy. Respect. 6. Petersham won over 1400m as a short priced favourite when resuming last time in before failing in a G3. Trialled twice and she could take some running down from on the speed. 2. Hinchinjive is a consistent type who ran well in this sort of grade at Warwick Farm last time out and has claims once again.

6. Mogwai showed plenty of promise in his first prep without winning. Charged home on debut into a placing before a narrow defeat at Newcastle. Close up in a strong 2yo race at Rosehill before a spell. Fitter for two nice trials, gelded this prep and sure to be competitive.

Dangers: 5. Keenan is a logical threat, he’s chased home a couple of smart ones in his two placings from as many starts to date. Big gap to third at Warwick Farm last week when nabbed by Need Some Luck. Goes forward and gives a sight. 10. Darling Downs had a month between her two trials, both wins, and another six weeks or so going into this debut run. Hard to line her up, and the wide gate is an issue, but if there’s any support she has to be respected. 7. Sheetice has been a beaten odds-on favourite at his past three at Goulburn, leading the last two. Place hopes here.

How to play it: Mogwai WIN ($4.40 TAB Fixed Odds).

1. Rhythm Of Love ran into an in-form, tough, front-runner here two weeks ago and only went down by the bob of the head. Again beaten by a promising type second-up. Down in class here and while up in weight has the stalking gate and could easily go one better.

Dangers: 5. McHale has been solid in two runs back from a spell for fourth placings at Canterbury and Rosehill. Hit a flat spot there last time but picked up again late. Would appreciate a bit of tempo on and if he gets it he’s a chance. 4. Power Of The Brave was sent out favourite first-up at Newcastle after winning his first two starts but just held ground for a midfield finish. Fitter and worth another chance. 3. Flying Trapeze is better than his first-up effort behind Facile suggests. Obviously needs to improve but capable of it.

How to play it: Rhythm Of Love WIN ($1.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

1. Iknowastar is the starting point for this race, he’s a bold front runner getting ready for the Big Dance and he was far too good over 1400m here two weeks ago. Up in weight but should be right on speed from the inside and will be hard to run down.

Dangers: 2. Touristic was a winner over 1800m at Rosehill in July and didn’t run a bad race last time in. Trip suits fresh and drawn to do no early work. Expect he will be hitting the line strongly and is a genuine chance. 5. Toesonthenose was never able to get into the race last time out in a Midway at Rosehill and didn’t do a bad job making some ground for a midfield finish. Expect he’ll look to press forward here and has run some of his best races that way, including an all the way win over Rediener back in May. Can improve. 3. Holymanz didn’t run up to market expectation at Randwick behind Ausbred Flirt and should show something more with a slight class drop. Group 3 placed in February so has the ability.

8. Loving Cilla is a get back, run on, horse and she was able to mow them down from the back at Randwick on Epsom Day over this trip. She’d been working up to a win so if she can hold that form, and get the breaks from the second half, she can be in the finish again.

Dangers: 4. Oakfield Prince is racing in excellent form at the provincials and was far too good for a subsequent winner when scoring over a mile at Wyong last time. On pacer who can give a good account around here. 9. Port Lockroy won a Scone maiden then started $26 and held his own okay in the Dulcify at Randwick a few weeks back. This class suits a bit better and he’s one of the chances. 5. Buillt has run into some form this preparation and was a popular winner at Warwick Farm third-up earlier this month. Up 2kg and drawn wide this time but can’t be left out.

3. Whinchat is chasing a hat-trick after a couple of dynamic all the way wins at Canterbury and Rosehill. Seems to enjoy a gap between runs and if he finds the lead he could be hard to run down again.

Dangers: 1. Flying Destiny didn’t have the best of luck in behind the lead in a Midway at Rosehill following wins at Hawkesbury and Wyong. Entitled to another chance here. 2. Dream Hour was honest without winning last time in and does have form around Rediener and Aristonous from the winter. Fitter for two trials and should be considered. 7. Vinnie's Spirit boxed on pretty well when resuming here two weeks ago. Down 3.5kg for a class rise but one of the chances.

How to play it: Whinchat WIN ($3.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

4. Wondereach did everything wrong first-up at Newcastle, running off the track in the straight, but was still able to pick up a very slick leader. That horse has since won. Ticked over with a sharp trial win since then and if he races true he should be hard to beat.

Dangers: 8. Markwell Dreamer is racing in good form at this sort of level. Placed twice over this course before a close fourth at Eagle Farm a few weeks ago. Draws soft and should be strong at the finish as usual. 7. Selous resumes with a couple of trials under his belt and will be an interesting market watch. Found 1000m too slick fresh last time in but raced well in all five starts. Sure to be running on and must be kept safe. 5. Spirit Queen is now with the Maher/Eustace stable and brings a handy record down from Queensland. Not really exposed in a couple of trials so is another to monitor the market around.
