John Schell's Tips For Kensington (Friday)

By John Schell

(Selections based on a soft track)

Race 1 - 3:20PM CELEBRATION OF CHRIS CASERTA HANDICAP (1300 METRES):

7. Miss Emma showed some talent in her initial campaign and since resuming for her second preparation she has performed well with a first-up strong finishing second on this track being followed by a third at Canterbury when not far away. She should be hard to hold out in this.

Dangers: 2. Sparks Flying is on debut and she has run well in two trials leading into this. She warrants plenty of respect and is from an astute stable. 1. Denote is from the Waller stable and was placed in both Queensland starts at her only campaign. She has had a trial to prepare for this and is drawn to get the run of the race. 8. Very Sewreel is first-up from a spell and should not be underestimated.

How to play it: Miss Emma WIN.

Race 2 - 4:00PM TAB THANKS BERNADETTE MCLOUGHLIN HANDICAP (1400 METRES):

1. Duke Of Lancaster is a well bred colt that has had two starts and has been placed in each of them at Kembla Grange and Warwick Farm. He’s perfectly suited in this and gets his chance to break through.

Dangers: 8. Zouphoria did a good job when resuming with a second at Canterbury and she can give plenty of cheek in this. 4. Determination was midfield at his only start and has the talent to show up again, while 3. Pasima was placed on debut at Hawkesbury and has claims again in this.

How to play it: Duke Of Lancaster WIN.

Race 3 - 4:40PM RANDWICK CITY COMMUNITY CUP (1800 METRES):

5. Ruban Bleu was midfield in the Little Dance. His form before that was solid enough including a Kembla Grange placing, and a repeat of that effort would have him in the thick of things here.

Dangers: 2. Highland Rocker is resuming from a spell for the Annabel Neasham stable and is worth plenty of thought fresh. 8. King Of Hearts is a last start Goulburn winner that can show up again here. 9. Sian can be placed on best form.

How to play it: Ruban Bleu WIN.

Race 4 - 5:20PM EDDIE JONES 52 YEARS AT LION HANDICAP (1250 METRES):

6. Angara has had two starts back from a spell and wasn’t beaten far when placed at Newcastle when resuming before leading throughout to score by a big margin at Scone last time out. He’s drawn the inside here and another bold showing is on the cards.

Dangers: 8. Treize ran well in her only three starts to date including a last start Kembla Grange win in June before being spelled. She’s had two trials this campaign and is poised to run well. 4. Canadian Ruler is yet to miss a place from three starts, including the latest two in city grade. He has run well in two trials leading into this return. 3. Zouprince wasn’t beaten far at Rosehill last time out and has claims again in this.

How to play it: Angara EACH WAY.

Race 5 - 6:00PM THE AGENCY REAL ESTATE HANDICAP (1400 METRES):

2. Cloudland had a solid record before resuming from a spell with a strong win on the track over Shadows Of Love, which has since won two on end in Saturday grade. Cloudland since finished second at Rosehill and has drawn to advantage here.

Dangers: 1. Awesome Lad did the job well to score at Doomben last time out and that was on the back of a last placing in the Four Pillars. He’s drawn the inside barrier here and shouldn’t be underestimated. 4. Louisville arrived in time to score at Canterbury when resuming and looks suited against these, while 3. Rebel Shadow can be placed in this without surprising. at this track before being spelled and has had a trial to prepare for this return to racing.

How to play it: Cloudland WIN.

Race 6 - 6:30PM TOYOTA FORKLIFTS HANDICAP (1400 METRES):

2. Bowery Breeze was second-up from a spell at Kembla Grange last weekend when battling on well to finish fourth. She is ready to peak now and should take plenty of beating.

Dangers: 5. Miss Faberge followed a Gosford victory with a solid enough midfield Rosehill effort and comes into calculations here. 6. Venetian Blue is first-up from a spell and was a Warwick Farm winner over a staying trip before the break. She’s had two trials to prepare for this. 3. Fun Sunday is resuming from a spell and has place claims.

How to play it: Bowery Breeze WIN.

Race 7 - 7:00PM HALL CHADWICK HANDICAP (1250 METRES):

3. Cool Jakey is lightly raced and was a debut winner at Warwick Farm before scoring at Newcastle earlier this year. He was placed at this track after leading before finishing midfield in stronger grade before being spelled.

Dangers: 7. Famous Pedrille is handy at best and comes into contention following a couple of key scratchings. 1. Dynamic Spirit is a former Hong Kong based galloper resuming for the Waller stable and has looked good in a recent trial. 2. The Big Short is another resuming for Waller and warrants respect at his first Australian start.

How to play it: Cool Jakey WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 1 (7) Miss Emma.
Race 5 (2) Cloudland.

Best Value:
Race 4 (6) Angara.
