Jockey Quotes - Tramway Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 2 $300,000 Ikon Tramway Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick.

Tim Clark (Royal Patronage): “First up from a long spell, it's a pretty pretty good effort from him.

“He had a prep early in the year in Melbourne, but he's come back in and he's just been going so well at home, working fantastic, trials were good.

“When he was able to bounce and adjust to that seven-furlong speed so comfortably, if anything, raced a bit keen early, because that was the unknown, how he was going to react to a fast run seven, but he traveled sweetly, he was really tough.

“He'll continue to improve, how far he gets, even in distance, still a bit of an unknown as well, I think he's got plenty of options going forward, anyway, I'm sure Gai [Waterhouse] has got the calendar out looking through them.”

Tommy Berry (Amelia's Jewel): “Couldn’t have been any more proud of her. For her to be first up today and to run at that sort of speed it really dragged it out of her a little bit. As soon as Kovalica came up she was in for the fight. She was strong through the line. She’s in for a great prep.”

James McDonald (Kovalica): “He’s run incredibly well. It was so hard to get into the race. Being first up he couldn’t have gone any better.”

Chad Schofield (My Oberon): “Nice return. The tempo had him a little bit strung out but I thought he was brave to stick on the way he did. Will appreciate more distance and the edge off the track.”

Nash Rawiller (Democracy Manifest): “I got back a long way. He travelled really kindly. Got flushed very deep on the corner. Left an impossible task.”

Regan Bayliss (Loch Eagle): “They just went too quick for him the whole race. He was off the bridle. Will be better suited third up to the mile.”

Winona Costin (Old Flame): “Just left three deep no cover. Left without a fighting finish.”

Rachel King (Phearson): “He ran super today. Running in good company and running up to that mark.”

Craig Williams (Freedom Rally): “Was able to utilise a nice barrier draw. They are breaking records today. We were able to be close to the winner. I think he will improve with the run but I think he’s in for a good prep.”

Dylan Gibbons (Nugget): “He has gone enormous. That brutal tempo had him near his top most of the way. Did a good job to finish off the way he did.”

Reece Jones (Stockman): “1400m on a firm track is obviously not his go but he tried hard. He will get better.”

Tyler Schiller (Arctic Glamour): “I thought she did a great job the way the track is playing. Not in her favour being that far back. Great job to run on.”

Jason Collett (Kintyre): “Happy with that. He was fresh today. Positioned well and stuck on well considering."

Molly Bourke (Felix Majestic): “He’s run a super race. He went hard and finished it off strong. Just weakened out the last bit.”
