Jockey Quotes - The Star Doncaster Mile

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 1 $3,00,000 Star Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Royal Randwick.

Craig Williams (Mr Brightside): “The way that this horse has come over from New Zealand in one preparation they just took the steps through his grades, really developed this horse. He’s still not a furnished product yet, so really looking forward to an exciting spring now that he will probably be a weight for age horse.”

“His attitude was much better today, so he began much better than what he has in his previous first two runs this prep. I was then able to use his natural gate speed, got into a nice position and followed the fellow Victorian (I’m Thunderstruck) which was nice because we also brought you guys some Melbourne weather. He did get off-balanced when the other Melbourne horse pushed me out of the road at the top of the straight.”

“I’m not saying he loved the track but every time I urged him along and asked him to extend he really responded for a horse that really wasn’t that comfortable in the ground. It just shows the quality of this horse and obviously the preparation from the training combination of Lindsay Park, most importantly of Ben and JD Hayes.”

“He’s definitely a really exciting Group 1 weight for age horse coming on because this is only his second preparation. So he’s really exciting.

Hugh Bowman (I'm Thunderstruck): “Delighted with his run.”

Fred Kersley (Icebath): “Fantastic run. She travelled very well. She was brave.”

James McDonald (Cascadian): “He’s gone superb. Was back in a slowly run race. Had no chance from back there but he rattled on some really good sectionals.”

Regan Bayliss (Private Eye): “He was a little bit keen. It wasn’t a solidly run Doncaster I didn’t feel. Too bad to be true.”

Chad Schofield (Dalasan): “He ran very well. I just wish the track was a bit firmer because he doesn’t like that heavy ground.”

Damian Lane (Lighthouse): “She was honest. Just lost that little turn of foot that she has. She has tried hard all the way.”

Tommy Berry (Laws Of Indices): “I was rapt with his run. These tracks are too heavy for him but look forward to him in the Spring. He’s a nice horse.”

Tim Clark (Ellsberg): “I thought he ran really well. He tried hard.”

Kathy O'Hara (Sky Lab): “The just went too slow for him. A sit and sprint and back from where I was I struggled to make any ground.”

Alysha Collett (Kissonallforcheeks): “She didn’t enjoy the track that well. She was a little bit flat.”

Robbie Dolan (Numerian): “Looking for further now.”

Jay Ford (Brutality): “He got back as usual and wasn’t suited.”

Jamie Kah (Forbidden Love): “Really good effort. Just not quiet as sharp at the mile.”

Dean Holland (Just Folk): “I thought he went great. Just didn’t get the cover he needed early and as a result he over-raced a bit. He was very game.”

Linda Meech (Kiku): “Just got too far back.”

Rachel King (Converge): “Raced a bit flat today.”

Teodore Nugent (Bankers Choice): “Super run. Had a beautiful cart up into the race and the last 50m was the best.”

Brock Ryan (King Magnus): “Got a little bit further back than I wanted too. I thought he hit the line strongly.”
