Jockey Quotes - The Metropolitan

Chris Waller made it six winners at Royal Randwick and three Group 1s for the day in an amazing training performance.

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 1 Heineken 3 Metropolitan (2400m) at Royal Randwick.

Brenton Avdulla (Come Play With Me): “I thought this was the horse I wanted to ride with the weights, I was very lucky to have Chris [Waller] put me on him.

“Things didn’t go right pre-race, he jumped and was a pair further back than I wanted to be, I knew I couldn’t go around them to win it, so I just had to ride through them.

“He was there to win the race half way up the straight and Tommy [Gallic Chieftain] put a margin on him, but to his credit he kicked back and fought on.

“Obviously riding for the right trainer today, a career best four Group 1s for Chris [Waller], it’s been a pleasure to ride a winner for him.”

Tommy Berry (Gallic Chieftain): “Brilliant run. Couldn’t have asked for a better run from the gate we had and he was just beaten by a better horse on the day.”

Hugh Bowman (Shraaoh): “I can’t offer much for him. He was disappointing and it will be interesting to see if anything comes up. I couldn’t feel anything wrong.”

Ben Allen (Grey Lion): “Drew and awkward gate and got too far back. He never felt comfortable in the going. Better barrier and on top of the ground.”

Nash Rawiller (Neufbosc): “Travelled alright in the run. Came off the bridle a bit at the 650m and found some trouble when they straightened.”

Adam Hyeronimus (Stampede): “He ran a fantastic race. Didn’t have the race run to suit. The way the track is playing this late in the day might have brought him undone. I’ve got no doubt on a dry track and that race is run again they don’t catch him.”

Jason Collett (Big Duke): “Good run. He worked home well.”

Glyn Schofield (Patrick Erin): “He ran on really well from the back. He had no gate speed but finished off really well.”

Andrew Adkins (Sir Charles Road): “Travelled well throughout, in a lovely rhythm, finished his race off really well.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Brimham Rocks): “Slow to step away and never ever in the race today. Obviously just didn’t like that ground.”

Tim Clark (Hush Writer): “Good run. He had a lovely run throughout, just felt his wheels spun a little bit on the ground when he came under pressure but he ran well.”

Andrew Gibbons (Attention Run): “She ran out of her skin. We didn’t have any luck early.”

Robbie Dolan (Scarlet Dream): “She was a bit disappointing. We had the run that we wanted but as soon as the tempo quickened up a little bit she just couldn’t go on those soft conditions.”’
