Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the $2,000,000 The Invitation (1400m) at Royal Randwick.
Tyler Schiller (Belclare): “The owners were here last start and I couldn’t get the job done, or we couldn’t get the job done. But it’s great to bounce back. She’s awfully tough. Bjorn thought we could lead today and I was happy that when we got there she switched off nicely without the blinkers on.
“She was awfully tough in the straight. I thought I was beaten three times when I saw one come up to me, but she just kept kicking. And Bjorn has done a terrific job to turn her round start to start. She’s a lovely mare.
“I came back last start and said she was just a bit keen inside of horses. I was happy that Bjorn did take the blinkers off because I think she’s sharp enough, as she’s shown early, and put herself there. She switched off and did everything right late.”
Belclare wins the Invitation
Nash Rawiller (Magic Time): “Great run. The times they have run home in made it hard to make ground but she found the line really well. She is top class.”
Zac Lloyd (Makarena): “She went really well. She is racing nicely. Just wish there was a bit more tempo for her. That sit and sprint is not her nature. Great effort.”
Jason Collett (Royal Merchant): “She has run well. Distance question mark 14[00] and some ease in the ground would help her.”
Tommy Berry (Olentia): “See how she pulls up. She presented like she was going to win the race but she just didn’t let down the same. Obviously her second up record speaks for itself. We had her in really good order today and thought she was a really good chance. We’ll just get her checked over.”
Joao Moreira (Zougotcha): “She didn’t bring her best today.”
Tim Clark (Roots): “She got back and stayed back.”
Josh Parr (Terra Mater): “Travelled nicely. I was unable to quicken. I’m not sure if she didn’t appreciate the ground or she might be just looking for a break.”
Luke Nolen (Roll On High): “She was good. Probably didn't get the rub of the green from the way the track is racing. She was good and sound first up.”
Tom Sherry (Coco Jamboo): “Slow away but I was a touch disappointed with how she finished off.”
Rachel King (Queues Likely): “Really good super run. First run in Australia and she’s got a lot of improvement in her. Very nice filly.”
Kerrin McEvoy (Arctic Glamour): “She began well and I tried to get into a spot. I shot myself in the foot caught wide the whole way. She ran a nice race.”
