Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the $1 million The Hunter (1300m) at Newcastle.
Hugh Bowman (Lost And Running): “You’d have to say, his first up run didn’t go to plan then it was a patch up towards The Everest but he hasn’t disappointed once.
“He has continued to raise the bar and we were ultra-confident here today. The draw didn’t worry me too much especially with that big head wind.
“He is a horse that likes room and you would have seen once I turned for home, he looked under pressure but once he balanced up and changed legs he extended away and won with the authority that we expected him too. He is a very exciting horse for next year.
“He was the only horse out of The Everest and that form has stood up in Melbourne and Sydney since that race so it is the benchmark.
“We obviously had a healthy respect for the English horse (Top Ranked) but to come over here and take on a seasoned campaigner like Lost And Running was a big ask but he has obviously run well too.
“The Hunter has certainly stamped itself as a race for future stars.”
Lost And Running wins The Hunter at Newcastle
Andrew Adkins (Wandabaa): “It was a huge run. She jumped well, I got on the back of James and found the second best spot in the race. She travelled really well, she let down with a huge turn of speed but was beaten by a better horse. It was a top effort.”
James McDonald (Top Ranked): “It was a beautiful debut, he’s going to be a lovely horse in the autumn.”
Tommy Berry (Bandersnatch): “He’ll improve off that.”
Brodie Loy (Signore Fox): “If he draws a gate he wins.”
Nash Rawiller (Gem Song): “He was quite disappointing.”
Tim Clark (Dawn Passage): “He got a bit further back than I would have liked, but he didn’t appreciate being amongst horses.”
Josh Parr (Kementari): “There wasn’t enough speed for him, he had too much to do.”
Kerrin McEvoy (Standout): “Had a nice cheap run he was just a bit one paced.”
Glyn Schofield (Special Reward): “I had a lovely run, gave a little kick but it was short lived.”
Robbie Dolan (Prime Candidate): “The horse inside kept kicking up all the way and he didn’t like it.”
Jay Ford (Stockman): “A very pleasing first-up run.”
Ronnie Stewart (Countofmontecristo): "He tucked in nicely and had a nice cart into the race and I thought it was as good a run as he could give but a nice run moving forward."
Brock Ryan (Sweet Deal): "We had no luck in running whatsoever but the mare tried really hard. She’s had a good racing career and she’s off to the breeding barn."
Jason Collett (Roheryn): "His racing pattern didn’t suit today."
