Jockey Quotes - TAB Epsom

Probabeel and Funstar had to duke it out in the Group One TAB Epsom (1600m) with the New Zealand-trained mare proving too strong at the finish.

Kerrin McEvoy (Probabeel): "We went in quietly confident. She drew an outside gate. I spoke with Jamie and the ownership group and they just said ride a positive race. She flew the lids and we were a bit closer than I initially thought we’d be. We had partial cover for most of the race and got snaffled out of a spot when we bunched up at the 1000m."

"She showed her true grit there, she really picked up well for me, and I knew that if I could just have a conservative run through the first part she was going to be really strong for me with no weight on her back and that is exactly what she was able to do."

Brenton Avdulla (Mister Sea Wolf): “He ran honestly. 56kg was hard and wants the cut out of the ground.”

Nash Rawiller (Star Of The Seas): “He was quite disappointing. He felt the track a bit.”

James McDonald (Imaging): “He was okay. Favoured back to seven fresh.”

James Innes (Nettoyer): “Got back as expected. Never touched the bridle once. Didn’t take me into it and was disappointing”.

Jason Collett (Brandenburg): “Good run.”

Sam Clipperton (Yulong Prince): “Terrific run. He ran very well.”

Regan Bayliss (The Candy Man): “He is looking for that 2000m now. When they sprinted he lacked that turn of foot.”

Tim Clark (Wild Planet): “He ran okay. Probably a slight question at the mile.”

Blaike McDougall (Niccanova): “Very fired up out of the gates. Couldn’t get him to relax.”

Glen Boss (Funstar): “She ran up to her best. Probabeel was just too good on the day. I straightened up and felt like and kicked like the winner. Probabeel put a length on me very quickly which surprised me. Too good.”

Tommy Berry (Rock): “They went too quick for me. Was out of his comfort zone much of the way. Took away his turn of foot.”

Rachel King (Colette): “Huge run. Will be suited over further.”

Jess Taylor (Looks Like Elvis): “He ran out of his skin. ”

Winona Costin (Riodini): “Really nice run. He came back underneath me in the run. Had to do the work to take her up to the leader. Really nice kick.”

Brock Ryan (Glenall): “Went super. He just got chopped out at a vital stage.”

Robbie Dolan (Vanna Girl): “Got too far back from the real wide gate. I followed Rock into the race but when they sprinted home she couldn’t dash with them.”
