Jockey Quotes - Sydney Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 3 $2,000,000 Sydney Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick.

James McDonald (I Am Me): “She hightailed it out of the stalls, got a nice spot pretty early too and I backed it off. She had to be tough, but fast.

“She had to be tough late because they felt like they were surging, but gee she stuck her head out and had a crack.”

“Credit to the second horse (Airman) because I knew he was there. I accelerated brilliantly and he was stuck to me like glue. I was cursing about the furlong, but I was pretty happy over the line.”

Hugh Bowman (Airman): “I was very proud of him. He was a bit closer than we expected. But he was comfortable being there and challenged the winner at the 200m. All credit to the winner.”

Craig Williams (Bella Nipotina): “For her a phenomenal performance to get third. It was a performance deserving of a win the way the track is playing. It’s too hard, horses can’t make ground and she drew the outside barrier. We went back and got cover. The right horse King Of Sparta took me into the race and she just dropped all those horses. Due to the way the track played, hope she gets through the track safely but she gets third today.”

Chad Schofield (King Of Sparta): “The draw just killed us.”

Zac Lloyd (Vilana): “He’s run well. Had to wait 50m into the straight but he’s done well. Whacked away the last 200m.”

Jay Ford (Rustic Steel): “Has been off the scene for a while. Good effort.”

Rachel King (Rocketing By): “Massive run. Just needs a little rain around but he’s similar form to 12 months ago.”

Tyler Schiller (Coal Crusher): “He’s done a massive effort. Probably gave out the last 150m but has gone along at a good tempo.”

Nash Rawiller (It'sourtime): “Nice run. Was slow away and hit the line good.”

Tommy Berry (Art Cadeau): “He’s run well against that quality of field. Needed a bit more room early in the straight. He runs a bit closer.”

Dylan Gibbons (Inver Park): “We rode him to win and got caught a bit wide. Just finding the 1200m tempo a bit sharp at the moment.”

Nick Heywood (Shelby Sixtysix): “He got interfered with in the middle stages and it was game over.”

Kathy O'Hara (Greyworm): “Gave himself every chance. Just a bit outclassed.”

Zac Purton (Zapateo): “Forget that run. Nothing went right.”

Jamie Kah (Argentia): “Not much luck.”
