Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 3 $2,000,000 Fujitsu General Sydney Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick.
Rachel King (Rocketing By): “I sat on this horse for the first time when I trialed him the other day and had him actually forward. Didn’t know if that was quite the way to ride him but geez he gave me a good feel. He did the same again today, he just traveled. Coming into the top of the straight I had so much horse left."
"He gave me a lot of confidence the whole way, even at the furlong I was pretty confident I was going to get there. He did wander out a touch the last bit, but it was just really nice to see this horse bounce back to form. Credit to David (Pfieffer) and the team they’ve done a super job."
"After I trialed him I knew he’d run really well. That was the first time I sat on him. I galloped him in between as well. The horse is flying. I tried to not look at his recent form and just trust Dave."
Rocketing By wins the Sydney Stakes
James McDonald (In The Congo): “He ran super. A very brave performance. I think if it had got another 50m of pace before the bend he would have won.”
Kyle Wilson-Taylor (Weona Smartone): “Super run. Very proud of him. Game in defeat.”
Jim Byrne (Apache Chase): “They had too much speed for him. Probably needs a drier track too.”
Chad Schofield (Gem Song): “Ran super. Really good run.”
Glyn Schofield (Bandipur): “She was four wide in the middle of the pack but stuck it out really well to beaten that margin.”
Hugh Bowman (Remarque): “Very courageous effort. He did a bit much mid-race and it told late.”
Craig Williams (Tycoonist): “We were able to utilise a favourable barrier draw and ran really well to run fifth.”
Kathy O'Hara (Brutality): “He is in really good order this preparation. Just probably looking for a little further now. He is doing good things thus far.”
Dylan Gibbons (Prime Candidate): “Appreciated the drying surface. Gave 110% like usual but they were too classy late.”
Robbie Dolan (Shelby Sixtysix): “Raced like he always does. Just very hard from the barrier on the drying track.”
Jay Ford (Blondeau): “Travelled nicely but didn’t stretch out today.”
Sam Clipperton (Riodini): “He has run OK. He’s hit the line quite nicely and is in for a nice preparation.”
James Orman (Soldier Of Love): “Was on the edge of the bridle throughout. Maybe 1400m and the wetter the better.”
Kerrin McEvoy (Forbidden Love): “She actually ran a good race. Just did a little bit of work from the gate to get across. She rode like the 1400m will suit her.”
Damian Lane (Swats That): “Going really well. Raced without much luck from a poor draw again today.”
Brenton Avdulla (Waihaha Falls): “He was terrific. He has a low rating compared to a lot of those, meeting them at WFA. He jibbed at the start, put us back a few pairs further than ideal but attacked the line strongly.”.
Keagan Latham (Irish Songs): “Just a little out of his depth in that kind of race.”
