Montefilia became the first filly to win the Flight Stakes/Spring Champion double with David Payne's galloper getting the better of Lion's Roar late.
Jason Collett (Montefilia): “She’s a star, credit to David Payne and his team to get here in top shape, I galloped her Thursday morning and I left there pretty excited.”
“Everything panned out perfectly, I got the barrier to suit, it was just a matter of getting her into the clear at the right time.”
Montefilia was too strong late, again
Ryan Maloney (Cherry Tortoni): “Probably a bit disappointing. I got back in the field with a nice run following the winner and couldn’t go with it.”
Nash Rawiller (Love Tap): “Lovely horse and gave me a beautiful ride. Hasn’t given any indication that he has come to the end of his preparation until the 300m then and he didn’t give me the kick. We’ll have a nice horse in the Autumn.”
Regan Bayliss (Street Dancer): “Wide barrier in a tough Group One.”
James McDonald (Bucharest): “Good run. He’s going well.”
Brenton Avdulla (Lion's Roar): “He went huge. Has come a long way in a short space of time and was run down by a good filly. He has a bright future.”
Kathy O'Hara (Achiever): “He battled on okay. Probably just a class below this group. Definitely races for this horse.”
Rachel King (Choir): Fell after 350m.
Tommy Berry (Wertheimer): “Disappointing. There might have been something wrong there. Just disappointing.”
Kerrin McEvoy (Socrates): “He got a bit keen with some interference early. Just even paced home.”
Louise Day (Gorshin): “Think he might have held his breath. He went from travelling to nothing. Just re-evaluate him.”
Josh Parr (Miravalle): “Terrific effort. I tried to get a midfield spot that didn’t eventuate so went back. She is a lovely filly with a lovely race in her.”
Sam Clipperton (Favreau): “Terrific run. Gate didn’t help. He got home strongly and will be a lovely horse in the Autumn.”
