Jockey Quotes - Skyline Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 2 $250,000 Elite Sand & Soil Skyline Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick.

Brenton Avdulla (Corniche): “He gave me a lovely ride. He obviously hadn’t won a race but he’s got the right formlines around Barber and his run at the (Moonee) Valley was full of merit. Every run he’s ran into some nice horses and he’s now been able to executive everything.

“Had to respect James (Cummings) bringing him here today for this race at 1200m. I might’ve thought it was a little bit suspect with him but he did everything right. I knew where James (McDonald on Shinzo) was throughout and he was able to execute really well and get the job done.

“I think he’s got a bit (of upside) because he still does everything quite a bit raw. I wasn’t sure really what was under the hood until I got there. He was inclined to want to get in and get out, get in and get out so we were still sort of waiting for something and he did it quite comfortable.

“The way James’ (Cummings) horses are running I’m very thankful to be on. I think I’ve had three two-year-old rides for him the past ten days and they’ve all lobbed. So very thankful for the opportunities, but the whole operation is going very well.”

Corniche wins the Skyline Stakes

James McDonald (Shinzo): “He is a beautiful horse. He is going to make the grade. It’s just all come a bit quick but once he’s stretched out over a little bit further and gets the right set up, he’ll be away.”

Tim Clark (Bases Loaded): “Good strong performance from an on-speed position. He was very brave.”

Koby Jennings (Rush Hour): “Still very happy with him. He might have come to the end. Had a very good first prep.”

Rachel King (Disneck): “Got a lovely run. Was near his top most of the way. Will be a lot better when he gets over further.”

Regan Bayliss (Ganbare): “Probably looking for the 1400m now.”

Tyler Schiller (Extreme Spirit): “He’s a quality colt. He just needs a little bit further.”

Sam Clipperton (Make A Call): “He is a colt with nice ability. He’s just not executing in his races. Doing too many things wrong.”

Hugh Bowman (Diabelli): “He just wants a little bit further.”

Robbie Dolan (Tavs): “Just got caught wide from that wide gate. Just left wanting late.”

Reece Jones (Speedster): “Still learning his craft. He’s not quite up to that grade.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Side Show): “Lovely run. Just a little bit outpaced mid-stages but he built up and made his way home in good style. Will improve again.”
