Jockey Quotes - Silver Slipper Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 2 $300,000 TAB Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Tim Clark (Straight Charge): “I felt that if anything today was where he was going to be probably most vulnerable but he’s just got just an abundance of speed. But he come back to me nicely when I asked him and sort of rested around the bend. I was confident that he’d get through the ground (Soft 6) from what he’d shown at home. We came here thinking that that’s the sort of performance we want to see from him, it was excellent to get the result.

“I don’t take that lightly being one of their riders for Gai and Adrian. But I really just lean on them mainly and Gai was pretty adamant I stick with this bloke pre-Christmas and again leading into this prep. I try and lean on them a lot and they’ve been right most of the time.

“His ability was always going to take him a long way and I think that he’s got improvement to come off the back of today with his grand final (Golden Slipper) four weeks away he’s right on track.

“I was keen to lead. Early on it was just a matter of getting him into a rhythm, he’s a pretty quick horse so I didn’t want to be forcing to really restraining him heavily just to get back outside Nash (Rawiller on 2nd horse Espionage) and just made a decision going into that first turn to just let him slide forward that extra half a length and Nash he obviously followed me and had the last shot at me but my bloke pulled out plenty, it was a good strong win.”

Nash Rawiller (Espionage): “Beautiful horse. Sort of felt that he probably wasn’t as comfortable in the ground under pressure as I would have hoped. Look he adapted well. He is one of those horses who will adapt to anything. He has had a really nice blow. I still felt his last 100m was his best. Really encouraging going to the Slipper.”

Jason Collett (Erno's Cube): “Happy with that run. She has run nice against a couple of nice ones.”

James McDonald (Embassy): “He just bungled the start. It was race over after that.”

Regan Bayliss (Yoshinobu): “He’s a nice horse. Just not ready yet.”

Tyler Schiller (Gai's Artist): “I thought she has come on a lot from her first prep. She is still learning but I thought she was a good improvement up in a good grade today.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Celerity): “We were just posted a bit deep. I asked her to come back but she just wanted to settle a bit closer. Didn’t have a great run throughout. She is still learning the caper so I think there is improvement in the next preparation.”
