Jockey Quotes - Randwick Guineas

Shadow Hero picked his way through the field to reel in the leaders to take out the $1m Mostyn Copper G1 Randwick Guineas (1600m).

Josh Parr (Shadow Hero): “He’s grown and developed into this beautiful animal now. Look at the shoulder on him which he didn’t have last prep and we’re still a Group One winner. He excites me. I galloped him at Warwick Farm and I don’t think Mark could believe his clock and I couldn’t believe the work. He hasn’t galloped better. This is great isn’t it.”

Shadow Hero gave Mark Newnham his fourth Group One

Kerrin McEvoy (Castelvecchio): “Had to go back to get some cover and we stood them a good start in a  steadily run race. Moved into it at the 700m mark and the horse finished the race off well, just wasn’t run to suit him today. I’m sure that out in trip he can show more.”

Hugh Bowman (Microphone): “Delighted with him.”

Tommy Berry (Warning): “Another nice run from him. They just went a bit steady for me mid race and when they sprinted on the bend he was left a bit flat footed but his last 150m was strong.”

Rachel King (Brandenburg): “Huge run again. Get him back on a good track and he’s going to win a Group One for sure.”

Adam Hyeronimus (Prince Fawaz): “Much better run. It was pleasing to see. His first up run was pretty plain but I felt his run was good today. He was in a nice rhythm, just had to make a run from the 600m to keep his momentum going. Probably peaked on his run 100m out.”

James McDonald (Reloaded): “He ran super. Wasn’t the best to begin but I elected to roll forward. Got into a lovely rhythm. He tries really hard the horse, he’ll get his day in the sun. He’s going well.”

Nash Rawiller (Pancho): “We had to go back. Took a little while to switch off but he ended up in a nice rhythm. The way the race was run I really needed something to happen being a favourite at the 600m but I got a check when they sprinted. He was alright and hopefully I can stick with him in the Rosehill Guineas.”

Ryan Maloney (Conqueror): “He found a nice position off a moderate tempo but when push came to shove my bloke was found wanting and was probably a bit disappointing.”

Michael Walker (The Holy One): “He went really well. I was trying to get him to jump as all of his wins have been in front but he doesn’t seem to want to be interested in the first 20m. So I rode him back, followed the winner, had every chance and hit the line really good. Good run.”

Jason Collett (Fortress Command): “Just left a bit flat footed when they sprinted but worked to the line good.”

Tim Clark (Sirmaze): “He’s still just a bit raw and still doing a few things wrong. At that level you can’t do that.”
