Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 2 $500,000 ACY Securities Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.
Tommy Berry (Masked Crusader): “He sprinted very well but I tell you what, he has got improvement this guy. He had a good blow when I pulled up. His run sort of just started to end coming to the line. I think Hawkes’ just doing what they do making sure they are ready on the big day.
“He has always lived to my expectations but a couple of times I tried to ride him like the old grey horse. I realise how easy it was when I was riding him now because I could go back and loop the field. He’s no Chautauqua but he’s a very good horse.
“He is definitely going to need luck in The Everest the way he races but that is why he doesn’t win every time. When he gets his luck he’s always there.”
Masked Crusader rounded up his rivals from last
James McDonald (I Am Superman): “Good run for further.”
Nash Rawiller (Jonker): “I just got my run taken from me about the 300m and it cost him any chance.”
Tim Clark (Rothfire): “Obviously it’s important to see how he pulls up. Expecting him to do a bit more today.”
Kerrin McEvoy (Standout): “That was a very good run. He poked through and hit the line. We just got bloused by a good sprinter that had a bit of luck but he ran well and will improve off that.”
Hugh Bowman (Lost And Running): “I think that was an exceptional improvement on last start and he’s now back on track for an Everest.”
Regan Bayliss (Embracer): “Ran out of his skin. He is racing every so consistently this prep and he’s a little star of the stable.”
Glen Boss (Adelong): “She is flying this mare. Just finds 1200m at that level just a little beyond her but there will be a race for her pretty soon.”
