Jockey Quotes - Phar Lap Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 2 $300,000 Chandon Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Tommy Berry (Lazzura): “You feel sorry for horses like this and you just hope it doesn't dent their confidence chasing good horses around all the time. I think that says a lot about her attitude. She came here and she was very full of herself today and halfway around when I got an easy couple of sectionals.

“She hasn't been in a race with a slow tempo like that since the first start where she could show that turn of speed. That turn of speed's been dragged out of her by good horses. So a very good effort for her.

“When you sprint home in those sectionals, it takes a very good one to beat you.

“It would've been exciting, but I'm pretty happy taking the check and not worrying if she was there or not.”

Nash Rawiller (Wonder Boy): “Great effort. It was a bit of a sit and sprint. He was wanting to change onto his Melbourne leg when they quickened. He has finished off well.”

James McDonald (Declichy Boulevard): “She finished off really well.”

Tom Sherry (Flying From Above): “Just needed the run. Will show a lot of improvement from that.”

Tim Clark (Movin Out): “She was excellent late. Just took her back to get her to settle and she was strong. Hopefully that might teach her a little bit. Worked through the line really well. She will stay well.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Powers Of Opal): “She has gone well I think. Just needs a bigger field, bit further and a stronger tempo."

Zac Lloyd (Real Class): “She is a lovely horse. Just the race wasn’t run to suit her. She has a big action. Her attribute is her sustained speed not a sit and sprint like that. She’ll be right.”

Tyler Schiller (More Territories): “I was happy with her run. They dashed home fairly sharply off a moderate tempo and she probably just didn’t see out the 1500m. I think she will be better off back to 1400m and maybe a touch back in grade.”
