Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the $3,000,000 Nature Strip Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens.
Brenton Advulla (Private Eye): “He won a Queensland Guineas and it still felt like we were nowhere near the bottom of him. Joe (Pride) used to always tell me ‘what do you reckon his best distance is?’. I said if you send him to the Derby I reckon he’d win the Derby. If you send him to the Stradbroke, he can win the Stradbroke.”
“We were stiff not to win the Stradbroke, it was pilot error but then Joe put me back on him and he’s been awesome. He was awesome in The Everest and although today was a $3 million race, it was probably just a run to get him to the mile next week, you can just see how explosive he is”
“It’s just crazy how good he is on top of the ground. He just takes 50m to build through his gears but once you get serious with him he just lets go.”
“Jamie (Kah on third placegetter Kementari) gave me a great cart into it and for a second I just thought Lost And Running (7th) and Mazu (2nd) we just probably quickening a bit too good for him. But once I knuckled down at the 300m there he just opened up the V8 and he just took off.”
Private Eye wins the Nature Strip Stakes
Sam Clipperton (Mazu): “Disappointing not to win but couldn’t be more proud of this horse. He’s acquitted himself well all prep. We’ll be hearing a lot about Mazu for the next 2/3 years. Really proud of him and a star on the rise.”
Jamie Kah (Kementari): “Fantastic run. Tried hard. Was a little bit wide early. Probably just took it’s toll late.”
Tommy Berry (Masked Crusader): “He has had three goes at Rosehill now. He runs the same sort of races. He’s a lot better suited at Randwick. I think he just gets a bit uncomfortable around the bends here. I lost a bit of confidence coming to the corner and he just ran an honest race.”
Frankie Dettori (Kolding): “He didn’t run at all.”
Hugh Bowman (Lost And Running): “He just didn’t let go. He just wasn’t quite right in the action. He pulled up well which is the main thing. Just not himself today.”
Regan Bayliss (Brutality): “Another great run. When he gets to his more suitable trip he will be a force to be reckoned with.”
Rachel King (Rocketing By): “He has gone super again. A little bit more room up the straight and he would have made it interesting.”
William Pike (Weona Smartone): “I thought it was a fantastic run. Up against some really highly rated horses there and he held his own really well.”
Tim Clark (Riodini): “I thought the last bit of his race was really good. He’s on track when the distances get a bit longer.”
