A mid-race move from Hugh Bowman on Who Shot Thebarman turned the $500,000 G2 Yulong Australia Hill Stakes into a staying test and Ace High prevailed ahead of It's Somewhat and Egg Tart.
Tye Angland (Ace High): “I could have rode him and led quite easily but I wanted to look at the big picture and get him to relax. It’s what we are going to have to do over these staying races. I fell into an okay spot but they were going a bit steady. About four or five strides before Hughie took off I put myself into his spot and it worked out perfectly. He’s a bit better and stronger this prep.”
Ace High relished the 2000m to win the Hill Stakes
Hugh Bowman (Who Shot Thebarman): “He just needs a bit further to see the best of him.”
James McDonald (It's Somewhat): “Terrific run, he’s ready to win.”
Tommy Berry (One Foot In Heaven): “Very nice run, when I came off Egg Tart’s back I thought I was going to run second, but he’s still feeling the firm ground a little bit. If there’s any rain about certainly keep him in mind.”
Jason Collett (Allergic): “Felt the ground.”
Craig Williams (Master Of Arts): “Much improved effort from him, there’s no doubt with the wind the track is getting really firm, I don’t think that’s really to his liking.”
Glyn Schofield (Satono Rasen): “He had his chance out there, blinkers on ridden forward, but he didn’t finish off.”
Corey Brown (Prince Cheri): “He’s come to the end of it, he’s a 10YO stallion who’s just not the horse he used to be.”
Kerrin McEvoy (Egg Tart): “Funny run race, they went steady and then really solid from the 1000m, I had a nice run, the winner was just too good on the day.”
Michael Walker (Luvaluva): “Track was too hard for her, she’s looking for some give, travelled up like she was going to quicken, but I think she was looking after herself on the track.”
