Jockey Quotes - Group 1 Flight Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 1 $750,000 Darley Flight Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick.

James McDonald (Zougotcha): She’s a star. She’s come on, her work during the week she’s been superb, she’s blossomed. She’s a really good filly, she adapted to the conditions well. She did her job.”

“She’s a fairly good filly this because she keeps improving and there’s no reason why she can’t keep going. She had the acid test over the mile today, at 14(00m) she dug deep to win. She’s just on the upwards hop.”

“She’s a quality filly and she showed her qualities today popping into the box seat. They only went slow and she didn’t give much else a chance.”

“I would’ve loved to come out a bit more but I had no options, I was just cast there. She scoots through the ground, whatever you do with her she does properly.”

“I think she’s got plenty to be fair because as you guys have seen she’s gotten better and better. She was in a dog fight two weeks ago, she’s won like a classy filly today and she just keeps improving.

Tommy Berry (She's Extreme): “Very proud of her today. You’ll notice she sort of came into the straight very well but just as I pulled my stick through to my right, she just scrambles a little bit for two or three strides. I went from thinking I was a real good chance of winning to just battling on to run second but she showed her toughness. The winner was too good for us today, full credit to it.”

Tim Clark (North Star Lass): “She was very brave as she has been all preparation. Good run again today.”

Brenton Avdulla (Fireburn): “I was a bit disappointed. 600m out I was never really in the race. Never travelled as well as she has in the past. I was out on my feet at the 150m, whether it was the seven day back up.”

Tim Clark (North Star Lass): “She was very brave as she has been all preparation. Good run again today.”

Jason Collett (Wolverine): “I don’t think she handled the ground. She was quite strong in the run, too strong to finish off that.”

Hugh Bowman (Madame Pommery): “Don’t think she ran the mile out. The heavy track didn’t help.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Pavitra): “That was a nice run by her. She will stay further no doubt. Out in trip will see her run well.”

Rachel King (Renaissance Woman):“Super run again. Can’t wait for her to get to 2000m.”
William Pike (Byron Belle): “Next preparation for her.”

Chad Schofield (Whisker To Whisker): “We obviously hoped she would hit the line better than that. We rode her quietly.”
