Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 1 $5 million Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens.
Brenton Avdulla (Fireburn): “Very happy early. They went along for a furlong and I just couldn’t hold a spot. I was trying to keep Brett (Pebble) out but I was just going to be burning, so I was just happy to let her come back and let him hopefully crash tackle a few of them for me.
“Once we got out of the shoot there was a real shuffle up and it felt like the speed came out of the race and I almost sold out and lost plenty of momentum and ended up back second last. From the 500m onwards I just thought ‘I can’t win the race, I’m just gonna get a couple and earn some prizemoney.
“Once I straightened up and got balanced and started to pick them off one-by-one, I got to the 200m thinking ‘this thing is going to win’.
“I knew I was home at the furlong, I just had to get out.”

Sam Clipperton (Best Of Bordeaux): “Very frustrating yet very proud. He’s done a wonderful job this preparation. He’s going to run 1400m this horse when he grows into himself. Going to be a lovely 3yo. Must say congratulations to Kacy Fogden. She’s done a brilliant job with this horse.”
James McDonald (Coolangatta): “Really sad. She tried her heart out. Got into a beautiful spot. Let down but the ground got her. A terrific filly and really proud of her.”
Hugh Bowman (Jacquinot): “Had a lovely run in transit. Didn’t appreciate that heavy track.”
William Pike (Sebonack): “A long way back.”
Tim Clark (Rise Of The Masses): “I had a pretty torrid run. I couldn’t go with the speed early. He’s done a good job.”
Kerrin McEvoy (Revolutionary Miss): “Ran a good race. Was posted wide so came back to get some cover. Didn’t have a lot of room. She ran a great race.”
Jason Collett (Sejardan): “Just got smashed.”
Mark Zahra (Daumier): “A little trier. Ran really well. Did a good job to run fourth.”
Tommy Berry (Russian Conquest): “The ground hurt her.”
Regan Bayliss (Ojai): “We found ourself on the fence, for her to run fifth in the race was excellent.”
Josh Parr (Seven Veils): “Just had to do that little bit of work to find the spot from the gate. It softened us late. Still immature but she will make a lovely filly.”
Linda Meech (Lady Laguna): “It was too much for her.”
Brett Prebble (She's Extreme): “Ran super. She got left a little flat footed. She’s a really good filly.”
Nash Rawiller (Sweet Ride): “My horse ran really well. There was good speed in a hot race.”
