Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 3 $1,000,000 Inglis Golden Gift (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens.
Tim Clark (North England): “He’s been very straight forward and a horse that has just put his hand up early. Obviously he got to the Breeders Plate and ran really well. He couldn’t have done much more there apart from win. Obviously Henry (Field) and the team identified this race and it’s a short turnaround.
“He had a little bit of time out and then had to come back in, so it’s a really long prep for them but he’s handled it really well. And I think that attribute is very much like his old man, Farnan, who I had a lot to do with. He’s very laid-back and he’s just got the best attitude. Henry (Field) has been a great supporter of mine so it’s good to get a big win for him.
“Obviously the great thing about today, and winning today, is he’s in the (Slipper) so they can pick their mark with him. He can have a good break now and just come back and have one race in mind for him. And he doesn’t have to improve a lot to be right up there with the best of them in six months time.”
North England wins the Golden Gift
Tyler Schiller (West Of Swindon): “Yeah wow. He is a very good colt. He has made up a lot of ground today. Probably just the barrier draw was against him but he has a lot of upside going up in trip. He’s going to make a really good contender in the Autumn.”
Tommy Berry (Extractor): “I was very proud of him today. Rosehill is not an easy track for a 2yo to navigate at their first time but he’s done very well. A little bit further we might have got there.”
Kerrin McEvoy (Gaeilge): “We didn’t get the spot we wanted but he has acquitted himself well and can continue to improve.”
Adam Hyeronimus (Chicama): “Definitely a nice horse. Maybe might be a bit shin sore that is all.”
Rachel King (O'Ole): “She just melted a bit pre-race today which isn’t like her so she might need a bit of a break and mature a bit.”
Jason Collett (Icarian Dream): “She has done well. She copped some interference around the turn which may have been very costly.”
Zac Lloyd (Lapis Lazuli): “She just needs a bit of time to furnish and strengthen up. Hopefully after a break she can do that and come back a nice filly.”
Tom Sherry (Tupakara): “Unfortunately we had the run of the race but she didn’t corner well. She took a while to get her balance back. A touch disappointing.”
