Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the $1 million Golden Gift (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens.
Hugh Bowman (Barber): “I wasn’t as relaxed as when Winx missed the start. The plan was taken out of my hands at that point. So I just thought I will ride him where he is. The pace was extreme from the outset. Mid-race I could feel I was detached from the pack.
“He was happy and I had to trust him to run his race. I won’t inject him into the fire so to speak. That trust I had in him paid off because when I did need him, I still think he was inclined to think about it, he would run around a bit. You saw when we got into clear space. It’s only his second start and he was nursery rhymed around the course in his first start. He had to dig deep today and he produced. I would suggest he is one of the top 2yos in the country.
“It wasn’t the horses fault or my fault just the race circumstances that I had to deal with. I didn’t think about winning just riding the horse to run his race. That was all I could at that time and I got more and more confident.”

Rachel King (Infatuation): “She has run super today. Big improvement from her first run. She’s been run down by a very smart one.”
Regan Bayliss (Summer Loving): “Just got squished at the start. Hit the line really well. Will improve lengths off that. Smart filly.”
Tommy Berry (Coincide): “Had a nice run early. There was a bit of a scrimmage around the 600m and when my bloke saw that he got on one rein and didn’t want to stay on track.”
Brock Ryan (Disneck): “We got smashed mid-race and that hindered our chances. He did well to hit the line so he’s a nice little horse.”
Winona Costin (Flying Trapeze): “Super run. Just a shame about the barrier. His last furlong was very good.”
Jay Ford (Gitalong): “He ran a good race. Just too fierce with the shades on.”
Jason Collett (Kintyre): “Manners were better today. Just not putting it together just yet.”
Tyler Schiller (Mexico): “He was great. Travelled beautifully early. Quickened nicely and probably wants a little bit further.”
William Pike (Misty Legend): “I used too much gas early.”
Sam Clipperton (Razors): “Actually a really nice horse. All a bit soon for him yet. Once he matures mentally he’ll make a horse.”
Qin Yong (Speedster): “Good run. Travelled nicely. Just tired a little late.”
Reece Jones (Shine Your Light): “Not the run we wanted. Missed the start and got battered around a fair bit. On the turn lost all momentum. Probably jarred up a bit on the hard track.”
Tom Sherry (Maharba): “Beautiful run. Very nice horse going forward. Will take huge improvement out of today.”
