Montefelia gunned down Hungry Heart to take out the G1 Darley Flight Stakes at Randwick, giving Hugh Bowman his 97th Group One win.
Hugh Bowman (Montefilia): "I’m just so proud of the horse, David (Payne) had a very high opinion of her, obviously, and the slowly run 1400m where she was just outsprinted, I thought there was a lot of credit in her run, and a little bit more pressure, some cat and mouse between Tommy and James suited.
"I’m on a horse that is going to benefit over further so I rode her not tactically for the race, more to help her run her best race, and with that tactical battle up front I was rubbing my hands together down the back straight."

Tommy Berry (Dame Giselle): “She went too keen the first half. The leading pair took a good couple of furlongs to get in front of her. She was left without cover then and fired her up.”
James McDonald (Hungry Heart): “She went good. She is lacking something at the moment. She is better than that I feel. Maybe head gear to tinker with.”
Tim Clark (Vangelic): “Good honest race as always. There is not much of her but she gives everything she has got. A great filly.”
Kerrin McEvoy (Joviality): “Raced too keen.”
Josh Parr (Miravalle): “She was disappointing. We rode her a little differently today. She was found wanting late.”
Regan Bayliss (Alighted): “Not up to that.”
