Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Listed $2,000,000 Five Diamonds (1800m) at Rosehill Gardens.
Kerrin McEvoy (Pericles): “James gave me some good confidence, as did Darren and Dizzy as well, they just said ‘try your luck’. We drew wide but we were on a fit horse. He’s been running well. You look at horses beating him home like Buckaroo, Ceolwulf, they’re all Group One winners.
“It was up to us to try to extricate and get into a spot from that draw but we were able to lob into the one-one and they backed off and I got a bit of a rest. And I was ever so confident once we got to the 600m.
“He did give me a little bit more, yeah. I changed the stick to the left. I knew I had Jase (Jason Collett on Yellow Brick) beaten on the inside, I was just worried about something coming. But he was tough, and he was fit and ready to go. James and the team have done a great job with him. ”
Pericles wins the Five Diamonds
Tommy Berry (Freedom Rally): “Massive run by him. We just needed a bit more pressure in the race which we looked like we were going to get on paper but it didn’t eventuate. Good effort.”
Jason Collett (Yellow Brick): “Brave. Caught wide early. Had to press on. He dug deep.”
Ethan Brown (Attrition): “Ran as good as he could.”
Joao Moreira (Lindermann): “Had to make it tough facing the breeze. Didn’t bring his A-game.”
Rory Hutchings (Rediener): “Too keen in the run. Needed more tempo.”
Regan Bayliss (Osipenko): “Rolled forward. There wasn’t a spot for us in that first four so ended up going to the top on him. He actually wasn’t beaten all that far.”
Tyler Schiller (Amor Victorious): “I thought he was a really honest run. He is probably better at these trips maybe. But I think he will need a refresh and then when he comes back he will be back on the board.”
Zac Lloyd (Territory Express): “He has gone great. Just not enough tempo for him. Didn’t have much luck.”
Adam Hyeronimus (New Endeavour): “Horse went really well. Much improved run from his previous two starts.”
Tim Clark (Major Beel): “He tried hard. He is probably toward the end of what has been a good prep.”
John Allen (Kingswood): “He went good. Just wanted to be a pair closer in the run.”
Reece Jones (Strait Acer): “Little bit disappointing. From the draw, wanted to put him to sleep early to make sure he runs out the 1800m but just never travelled well.”
Tom Sherry (Holymanz): “He ran really well. Struck a bit of interference up the running but I feel as though he would have finished off a bit better.”
