Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the $2,000,000 Five Diamonds (1800m) at Rosehill Gardens.
Tom Sherry (Unspoken): “Prizemoney-wise it’s my biggest win, I’ve won a Group 2 and got a great thrill out of that but this was special. Peter and Paul keep believing in me, and giving me back the ride. The horse was brilliant, I really enjoyed that.
“He only had 52kgs last start. I was so impressed with him today. A lot of the pundits were writing him off and I don’t know why, his form is tremendous. He’s kept improving the whole way.”
“Things panned out perfectly, we got into a beautiful spot. He was so strong late, he tries really hard.
“He’s only acclimatised this preparation. Last prep he just wasn’t there but the team took their time. He’s got a great will-to-win, he’s very stop/start.”
Unspoken wins the Five Diamonds
Jason Collett (Detonator Jack): “Attacked the line well. Leaders got away from us.”
Zac Lloyd (Converge): “Much improved effort from this horse. Travelled well throughout and was game to the lone.”
Koby Jennings (Palmetto): “Got an easy run from the good gate. Switched off nicely. When the tempo quickened they did it very quickly and got left flat footed.”
Sam Clipperton (Antino): “To me it seemed he was a bit flat. Was warm and sweaty before the start but seemed like he didn’t have a zip in his legs.”
Adam Hyeronimus (Hoo Ya Mal): “Was very happy throughout the race. Down the running he didn’t really like the firm track. Wasn’t that comfortable on it and very one paced.”
Brett Prebble (Jimi Hendrix): “Didn’t get a backside, switched on and never really dropped the bridle at any stage.”
Nash Rawiller (Democracy Manifest): “He is an old marvel. Holding his form very well. Hasn’t gone backwards at all and still produced.”
Josh Parr (Hope In Your Heart): “She went well considering the lack of tempo and the dash home from the 600m.”
Rachel King (Zoumon): No comment
Tommy Berry (Waterford): “That was just cruel. Haven’t been in a big race like that for a while where they have gone that slow. He’s reeled off some pretty good sectionals. Very proud of him today.”
Dylan Gibbons (Regal Lion): “Stayer resuming. That far back, slow tempo and dash home. They left him for dead.”
Chad Schofield (Fawkner Park): “Touch disappointing.”
Regan Bayliss (St Lawrence): “He was in a sticky spot but is learning to go the Sydney way, just on his wrong leg the whole race.”
