Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 1 $600,000 TAB Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick.
James McDonald (Anamoe): “He was just a real lad in the gates, I had Hinged next to me. It was just sparking up on him a little bit being in there for a little while, not too long, but just enough to get him a little bit agitated being a stallion. But he was curled up and exploded today, so he was wicked.
“I was curled up, I was ready to go. But in saying that it was either going to work one way of another. Following a not so fancied runner, especially a stayer, was either going to creep in a bit earlier or take me nowhere. Thankfully it got me to the 400m. I’ve been saying it a lot of my life, three four pairs back… explosive.”
Anamoe wins Chipping Norton Stakes
Kerrin McEvoy (Fangirl): “Great run. She got a lovely trip around. Put forward a fantastic effort.”
Hugh Bowman (Mo'unga): “Proud of him again. He’s a consistent horse. Anamoe is too good. Fair play to him.”
Ryan Maloney (Laws Of Indices): “Rode him conservatively today. Hit the ground nicely.”
Dylan Gibbons (Montefilia): “Has come back in terrific order. Obviously the mile is a touch short. She couldn’t have come back any better.”
William Pike (Huetor): “The pace was strong and he was run off his feet most of the way.”
Sam Clipperton (Stockman): “He is ticking over beautifully for those longer trips.”
Tim Clark (Knights Order): “He showed good tactical speed. He got a bit outsprinted. He wants it further and wetter.”
Rachel King (Arapaho): “He has run another really super race. Will be getting better and better as the distances go up.”
Chad Schofield (Benaud): “Yeah he felt good. Will come into his own when the distances get further.”
Regan Bayliss (El Bodegon): “He is really looking to get out to a trip now. Out to 2000m next start and any cut in the ground will really help him.”
Brenton Avdulla (Hinged): “She raced really well. She lacks a change up speed in these sort of run races. Just presented to get rolling early and got a bit crowded for room halfway up the straight when she lost her spot. Without that she runs a clear top three without winning.”
