Jockey Quotes - Breeders' Plate

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 3 $160,000 Arrowfield Breeders’ Plate (1000m) at Royal Randwick.

Jason Collett (Sejardan): “He got his leg caught in the gates. Thankfully there wasn’t any damage done. We had the vet check. He was a bit more wound up than he was at the trials. It’s not a good sign that is for sure.”

“Disappointed for a run at the top of the straight. I drew 10 or 11 and I was three back the fence. I was quite happy with that. Disappointed at the top of the straight. Like the trial he gave me a really good feel. Plenty of horse to work with to manoeuvre a run like that in the straight. It looked pretty easy in the end.”

“He’s not your typical, little short coupled, speedy, 1000m early type. He’s got a wee bit of scope about him. He’s probably doing well to be here the first 2yo race of the season. There’s a bit more growing to do.”

James McDonald (Zambezi River): “Beautiful colt. Take a world of experience from today, taking the tight gap and relaxing early. A colt for the future.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Emperor): “Nice run. He had to do a bit of work early and gave a kick. Just got tired the last bit. Nice run.”

Robbie Dolan (Calico Jack): “Very happy with the run. Didn’t really know what he was doing the first half of the race. Hit the line very well at the end.”

Sam Clipperton (Hard To Say): “He ran super. Quite a green horse naturally but will take a lot of improvement.”

Regan Bayliss (Kibou): “It was no good drawn out there with no horses outside him. He wanted to lay out the whole race and all too much for him.”

Josh Parr (Master Showman): “It was a nice effort. He did everything wrong. Didn’t help himself out.”

Jean Van Overmeire (Nipotino): “Very small horse. Feel like he is going to develop into a nice horse.”

Brock Ryan (One Destiny): “A little bit green and outclassed at this stage.”

Tommy Berry (Psychiatrist): “Just did a little bit wrong today. He’s still learning.”

Nash Rawiller (Resonator): “He’s a nice colt. The effort told a little late.”

Rachel King (Spacewalk): “Really good first run. Just got a bit tired after a wide run.”

Tim Clark (Victory Moments): “He probably didn’t have the most sympathetic run but would still have to mark him as a bit disappointing.”
