Jockey Quotes - Apollo Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 2 $300,000 Petaluma Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick.

James McDonald (Fangirl): “She’s come back in beautiful order and dare I say it, it will take a good one to beat her this prep.”

“It felt like I was on Dundeel in the Derby again. Just sidle up the rise and basically felt like an exhibition gallop really for her. She’s come back in great order, it was just a matter of getting her into her rhythm and she does the rest.

“She’s just a beautiful mare and well-named, beautiful colours on her.

“Her work has been sensational, her trials. Take her formlines I suppose, apart from that Champion Stakes after a hard run Cox Plate that was her only glitch in her form and that wasn't really a glitch it was because the track was on fire and we couldn’t make ground.”

Fangirl wins the Apollo Stakes

Kerrin McEvoy (Militarize): “Nice positive run. First up he is going to improve off that and out to the mile of the Randwick Guineas, he is going to run a really good race.”

Nash Rawiller (Think It Over): “We had to do a little bit of work to find the spot outside the lead. Got into a beautiful rhythm. Fangirl has come back amazing on the way she left us sitting there on the rail at the furlong. You know what my old bloke is like, he needed a bit of a dog fight and I thought it was a great return.”

Zac Lloyd (Cascadian): “Bad ride. Horse is flying.”

Josh Parr (Arapaho): “A great performance. He was nice and fresh. He ran through the line really strongly. He’s in for a nice prep.”

Tommy Berry (Buckaroo): “It was a funny sort of race. Nothing really changed until the winner won when she let down like she did. I was really happy with my bloke. He only got out at the 250m and flashed home well.”

Regan Bayliss (Attractable): “First go WFA he has handled himself really well. So he’ll be good back down in the weights and once he gets up to the mile.”

Jason Collett (Navajo Peak): “Big effort. Caught wide, worked in the run and still there at the finish.”

Tim Clark (Lindermann): “He felt great. He got into a spot in behind the speed. Didn’t have a lot of room up the straight. Could have finished a lot closer than he did.”
