Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the Group 2 Yulong Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick.
Rachel King (Colette): “She doesn’t think she’s a little horse. She thinks she is bigger and tougher than all of them. She has that huge heart and will to win.
“She was probably the horse that travelled the best on that track today. When she travelled into the straight like that and got to the top of the rise, I knew I still had plenty of horse underneath me.
“To do that without the blinkers on, that is the first time she has ever done that. It didn’t seem to worry her. She beat a really good field today first up over 1400m.
“She has an amazing will to win. She doesn’t know how to run a bad race. Don’t think she ever has.”
Colette wins the Apollo Stakes at Randwick
Hugh Bowman (Kolding): “Very brave performance. Colette too good in the conditions.”
James McDonald (Verry Elleegant): “Unbelievable. She has come back in really good order. Obviously today’s race was over an unsuitable trip but she did a really good job.”
Tommy Berry (Funstar): “They went a bit too slow for her in the run. She went a bit keen which resulted in her getting a little bit tired later. That run will bring her right on.”
Kerrin McEvoy (Mugatoo): “He was good first up. It was slowly run, he stretched nicely first up and on to his next run.”
Brenton Avdulla (Toffee Tongue): “I thought she ran well. She over-raced in the middle stages because of the slow speed. She quickened up well enough but got a bit tired in the ground.”
Jason Collett (Fifty Stars): “He got a bit awkward and lost momentum on straightening. Good work through the line.”
Tim Clark (Prince Fawaz): “Had a nice run in front, travelled well. Just didn’t find a lot.”
